What the hell are colored memes?
In other questions, mattbrowne has mentioned the concept of variously colored memes. It sounds like a cool idea, but I don’t know what it means. So if any of you learned people out there could help me out, preferably with examples from your own life, I would be indebted to you.
Oh, and if you want to make a creative or funny answer, please feel free. I mean colored memes?

He’s talking about the concept of Spiral Dynamics which is used in more of a business sense to describe and diagnose operational cultures.
I hadn’t heard of them before a few days ago but they seem to be similar to the various concepts of sacrifice found in Buddhism, in which one gives up their personal desires for reasons of betterment of either themselves or the collective.
Here’s a somewhat shorter overview of the 8 colors:
1 BEIGE survival; biogenic needs satisfaction; reproduction
2 PURPLE safety/security; protection from harm; family bonds
3 RED power/action; asserting self to dominate others; control
4 BLUE stability/order; obedience to earn later reward; meaning
5 ORANGE opportunity/success; competing to achieve results; influence
6 GREEN harmony/love; joining together for mutual growth; awareness
7 YELLOW independence/self-worth; fitting a living system; knowing
8 TURQUOISE global community/life force; survival of Earth; consciousness

I’ve only seen memes with a white face. Never knew they came in other colors. My favorite thing is when they pretend to walk a dog or get out of a box.
@Glow – The term meme is used for different concepts. I was talking about Spiral Dynamics. See comments above.
Haha! Wow, spiral dynamics sounds a bit more complicated than the memes i know about! :)
My memes are bigger than yours!
I lurve fluther, I never even heard of memes, and now I know less about them than I did before @mattbrowne so is this just another name for the old fashion color magic?
@YARNLADY – From matt’s link:
“So, for simplicity, we introduced a color-code system back in the late 1970’s to label the Gravesian levels ( vMemes) in their peak conditions. The color choices were based on convenience for making title slides and training aids – there is no deep significance intended.”
i don’t understand this project at all. could we get a full explanation?
I don’t think anyone really cares!
@ninjacolin: I thought that was the purpose of this question.
@ninjacolin – Which project? Full explanation of what?
@Cardinal – If you don’t care, why don’t you pick other questions to contribute? I’m puzzled.
