I know it’s not as painful as crumbling up a whole loaf of bread… is it? What types are bread are best to use?

Any firm or slightly stale bread; day old baguette, country white, etc. Tear into pieces and put in food processor or blender. Process or blend for a few seconds. Voila!
If you have nothing old, toast something. That will dry it out and you can do as janbb says.
Simple. Buy some scratch at your local grocery store. Follow the directions on the box.
If you don’t have a food processor you can use a cheese grater.
Awesome, thanks everyone!
At my house, we take 4 C flour, 2 t sugar, 1 t salt, 1 t baking soda, 1 egg and 2 C milk, mix them all together, put in a pan in the oven for about 45 minutes, and let it cool off. Then we crumble it all up.
If needs must, break up stale bread, put into plastic bags one inside the other), place on hard surface, and whack the bag with a rolling pin
@squirbel when you say “from scratch” what exactly do you mean? Most of these answers take bread that is already made.
The answers that were given were satisfactory; I was asking how to make them as opposed to buying store bought bread crumbs. It’s so simple now that I know… before I thought it would be too time consuming to tear up bread.
Food processor ftw!
Most pre-made bread crumbs come seasoned. Follow almost everyone’s avice, and add a shake of Mrs. Dash.
