What is the most weight you've ever lost?

Was it intentional or unintentional? For example were you on a diet/exercise program specifically to lose weight or was it perhaps just the side effect of a medication or a stressful/busy lifestyle?
Did you actually need to lose the weight? How did you feel afterward? What kind of attention did you receive from others (family/friends)?
Did you perhaps gain it back at a later time?

I only care about how much fat I loose so it’s hard to say. I would say from 19 on the BMI to 14 BMI.
When I was in high school I lost approximately 40 pounds in about a semester. That was the most I’ve ever lost. I went from a women’s size 14 to a 6. It was completely unintentional. I was a teenager, I hated breakfast (so I never ate it), I’d have a sandwich for lunch, and I usually missed dinner because of theatre practice. I don’t recommend losing weight that way, it is completely unhealthy, but I felt and looked great. I have since gained back some of the weight (thankfully, not all), and am trying so hard to lose weight (the healthy way) again, but I have having little luck.
After my first child, I lost about 60 lbs within 9 months or so
it was with a diet and and argentine tango
After this baby, I lost 41lbs in 2 months, but it wasn’t because I am dieting or anything
over 45 lbs and trying to continue counting. my weight had reached the point where (combined with my age) my joints began to suffer, my back was always sore, my hips ached, so and so on. so, i started riding a bike on a more or less regular basis and started using an eliptical (best work out machine if impact is a concern as it was for me). as far as diet, i stuck to a main entre and skipped sides and bread. added fish and chicken to reduce red meat. so far i’ve dropped 4 pant sizes (8” off waist)!
Wow these are impressive answers!
70 lbs: from 216 to 146, but currently now at 158. Don’t know what my bodyfat % is. I re-gained weight when I stopped doing mostly weight training and shifted to half weight training, half cardio and re-introduced carbs to my intake again. Oh well.
Did it through smaller portions, healthy food, and lots and lots of exercise. Looking to hit about 145 again, possibly 140. I know at 146 the tops of my abs showed definition (but not the lower half). I did it for health reasons, because my doctors said being fat was the reason I was developing adult onset diabetes.
Turned out not to be the case. My birth control pill was causing the symptoms similar to pre-diabetes, because losing all the weight and exercising every day didn’t make the symptoms go away…. but stopping the pill did.
Unintentionally, 20 pounds in 2 weeks. I had Hyperthyroidism, and went into Thyroid Storm. I ended up weighing 114 lbs at almost 5’ 8” tall. Reactions were not good… I looked skeletal! Many years later, I lost 31 pounds with Weight Watchers over about 4 months. I thought I looked great at 131 lbs, but others thought I looked anorexic. Three kids and many years later, I’m trying to psych myself up to lose about 55 pounds. :(
@augustlan
ya, kids can really do that
before kids, I used to weigh SO much less than I do now
then I had 3 pregnancies, 2 kids, 1 miscarriage
and have been in this new body for over 3 years
but it is NOT what I’m used to
ideally, I’d want to lose 50 more lbs to be 150 lbs at 5’7’’
@augustlan
i would absolutely support you
but save for you coming here and ensuring that i sleep, exersise and not eat ice cream as comfort food, now is not the time for me to lose loads of weight…i’m still getting used to an infant and a toddler…and i’m starting a new job…so life’s crazy…
intentional. since july 7 of last year i’ve lost close to 30 pounds. slow and gradual is the key. no fad diets. just eating right and exercising.
I went from 115 to 165lbs while pregnant. I gained 50lbs.
Before I got pregnant, I had issues with losing weight, and got super thin, so I made myself gain weight healthily, so I was 115lbs and 5’6 when I got pregnant.
I lost 55lbs since giving birth. I lost 13lbs the day I gave birth, which isn’t much considering I gained so much. By November (i gave birth in July) I was 125lbs. It was those last 10lbs that took months to lose. But, getting married that next August gave me motivation to fit into my dress!
I walked a lot, ate healthy, and ate tons of fiber. I also took a pilates class, which helped my abs reconnect.
I now weigh 108 pounds, which may sounds too thin for my height, and if this was pre-baby, I would look disgustingly thin…but my body is much different now. I just look thin and not too skinny, if that makes sense. I have a lot more muscle on me, from carrying a 30lb toddler all the time, and he had gained 3lbs a month for the first three months of his life, which is a lot in baby world haha.
I keep LOSING weight, but it keeps FINDING me.
I gained a lot when I was pregnant. I was about 100 lbs (I’m 5’3”) before my first. I gained almost 60 lbs. My son was born at 8 lbs 11oz. I lost it all in about a month. I didn’t exercise or anything, but then again I was 18.
My second pregnancy I started at about 105 and gained about 50 lbs. My daughter was born at 8 lbs 7oz. I lost it all in about 6 weeks.
The problem began about 6 months later when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My meds kept me between 95 (too thin) and 110 for the next few years. Then my body went haywire and I’ve been up to 140 at certain times. I hate it.
25 pounds.
I’m 5’2” and gained some weight after my Grandpa died, taking me up to almost 130 lbs. After that, I decided that I really needed to lose weight and ended up getting a bit obsessed with it (REALLY cutting back on a bunch of things and exercising at least an hour a day (cardio). The funny thing was, I didn’t realize how thin that I was until I looked at pictures. My arms were like bones and my faced had that hollow sunken in look. It actually made me look quite a bit older. My nails were brittle and my hair was in rough shape because of it. I ended up going down to 92 lbs and stayed at that weight for about 6 months—slowly going up after that. I ended up losing a bit more after my Mom had died.
Now I’m back to 108 lbs.
I missed the other Q’s:
How did you feel afterward? What kind of attention did you receive from others (family/friends)?
I got flirted with a whole lot more, I notice that nearly EVERYBODY treated me better. Cold, aloof people were suddenly friendly. In fact, all of my interactions were a lot more positive. Fat-hate is still alive and well!
Also, upon shedding my weight, strangers who didn’t know me from before wouldn’t censor themselves when bashing fat people, and people who DID know me used to say horrible things about the way I looked before in that backhanded compliment way. You know, “Oh wow, you look SO much better than before, etc etc” or “How did you lose all that fat in that specific spot?”.
Hey, news flash: I’m still the same person, and you’re an hateful, superficial asshole.
I’m super skinny so losing weight would be kind of freaky. I lost 4 or 5 pounds when I had the flu once. That wasn’t good, but I gained it back. I’m already borderline underweight…
But my aunt went from weighing around 230 to weighing 160. I thought that was awesome; 70 pounds is a lot. And my friend’s mom recently went from around 230 to 190.
7 pounds in 3 days, intentional, I had a photo shoot I’d been on cold medication for 2 weekes so I gained a bit of weight :s
I went from ~170lbs to 152lbs after rowing a season of crew.
I’m happy to say I maintained that weight during the off season!
I lost 160lbs (intentionally) over the course of 2 maybe 2.5 years. I didn’t want to die from a heart attack at age 40 or suffer the effects of advanced diabetes like my father did. I wanted to be able to walk more than four city blocks without getting winded. I wanted my life back.
That’s fantastic! Losing 160lbs must have taken a lot of determination and hard work, but I’m sure that the results are worth the journey.
@eambos Thank you :) Honestly it was 95% determination and 5% hard work. The mechanics of losing weight are trivial compared to the mental focus it requires. I could write a book on the subject :)
