Has a hateful and vengeful person come into the Fluther?

I do not believe this is a true bot. I believe it is someone who has a bone to pick with mods, and is working to make their jobs harder. Whether or not said person has coded a bot to create new identities when the question maximum is reached, and to post ad infinitum, it needs to be stopped.

I know. I feel like I’ve entered some alternate universe. What a horror to have to deal with.
Terrorism? It’s a frickin’ internet site. You need to get a grip!
It’s still terrorism, or have you lost sight of the meaning of the word?
Does it only apply to middle easterners in your small world?
Wikipedia defines Terrorism as ‘most simply, policy intended to intimidate or cause terror. It is more commonly understood as an act which (1) is intended to create fear (terror), (2) is perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a materialistic goal or a lone attack), and (3) deliberately targets (or disregards the safety of) non-combatants.’
Are you honestly trying to tell me your favourite social answers site being spammed strikes terror into your heart? Because you might want to try going outside a bit more often if so.

~ You’ve changed my mind. You should go and create a Wiki entry on the great Fluther terrorist attack of April 2009. ~
Terrorism is only big news in America, bud. Ya’ll are the only ones who cry about it.
I don’t understand your response, given that my profile clearly states I’m from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Also points deducted for placing the apostrophe in Y’all in the wrong place. Boooo.
Whatever, trying to mock the accent. At any rate – my original post was supposed to be humorous – and you were so focused on one word than the issue at hand.
Nitpickers bug the shit out of me.
…You’re Scottish Ben? Well..we officially have some getting to know each other to get down to.
Same answer as in the other thread created by @asmonet:
I’ve noticed the spam too. So annoying. I’m not sure, but this Fluther question too could be counterproductive for two reasons.
1) If carcar is suffering from a troll-like mental disease (which is quite likely in my opinion) he will create a new userid (with or without email verification) and notice this very question. He will feel a sense of achievement because his provocation wasn’t ignored. It might be difficult to refrain from giving an impulsive response. But if you respond, you’re doing the troll a favor. He wins. You stop responding. You win. You ignore him. You win.
2) Speculation about a wis.dm troll (which wasn’t done in this thread) is certainly not baseless, but what will it achieve? It can add fuel to the fire. You watch a black person committing a crime. Maybe even a second. Then everything is fine for a while. Suddenly another crime happens, but there are no witnesses. Rumors are going around. Accusations are being thrown around. Yes, it probably was a black person. Really? How would an honest black person feel overhearing your conversation?
Captchas are a great idea!
You could have just mentioned it was a humourous tag! It’s funny if so. Why defend your use of the word if it was a joke?
That’s just how I am. I explain things, even my humor.
Could an IP range ban clear this up?
I don’t think it’s terrorism because I don’t see an element of fear. I think it’s vandalism.
I wish people would find more productive hobbies…
Like @mattbrowne I will cross post my response:
This is a timely question.
I agree to ignore for now is the best approach and wanted to add that to feed the trolls merely reduces us to “Jerry Springer” status quickly.
Fluther is better than that.
We – regardless of where we once were and how we found Fluther- are the captains of an incredible information machine.
I love this site and the knowledge it brings and wisdom it offers.
Lately it seems like there has been a lot of random trolling and posts designed to create chaos. Feeding it and not recognizing it for what it is- troll bait- will only bring on more of the same. So I applaud this thread and am happy we want to unite in ignoring the trolls.
This way some of the good people who are stepping aside till the dust settles will return and join in on the conversations once again.
I know it is hard to resist a snappy comeback or joking around but we need to get a hand on all this and simply IGNORE!
Trolls: Just say FLAG
Wow, I burn up my hard-drive and my very favorite site is attacked by cyber-terrorists! This really sucks, I’m guessing someone with hurt feelings over being moderated has a vendetta. I’m sure BenDrew and our fabulous mods will ride in on their white horses and save the day! In the meantime I will flag and flag and flag some more!
