I would consider the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ early work grunge. Then, towards the nineties, their music became somber with songs like “Under the Bridge” in which lead singer Anthony Kiedis reflected on his narcotics addiction.
I really don’t listen to Creed, so maybe other members of the collective will be able to help you there.
Chili Peppers early work (Mothers Milk is their best album ever – buy it today) is NOT grunge. It’s a cross of punk and funk.
Creed doesn’t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the Chili Peppers.
My friend Bob once said “Even Jesus hates Creed”.
I agree with @aanuszek1 about the Chillis, and Creed is much more of a hard rock band. In my opinion. Love them both.
NO NO NO!!! RHCP created a unique sound all their own, not grunge. It was a mix of funk and surf punk. Anything post Mother’s Milk is just cheesy pop.
Creed was definitely just hard rock. Like the others said, RHCP were funk/punk. Grunge was more of a metal punk stoner mix.
Definitely agree that anything after Mother’s Milk is poppy crap. Freaky Styley and The Uplift Mofo Party Plan are the shit!!
A plan based on a band, a band based on a plan…
@tinyfaery Any band that can rock a Stevie Wonder cover as hard as they did gets no end of respect from me. Also, Magic Johnson… it’s genius and you don’t have to be a Lakers fun to enjoy that!
RHCP is def. not Grunge, I agree with Heretic and Tiny as far as their sound is concerned. And Creed, well…I think enough has been said.
George Clinton wouldn’t play with Creed, but he has played with RHCP. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan. That was constantly on my CD player back in college. Aw, Hillel. :(
