Is my HP laptop a piece of junk?
I bought an HP notebook about four months ago. It has Vista and everything seemed to be going well. Then yesterday out of the blue the hard drive crashed. I have anti-virus that I run regularly, I have spy-ware stopper that I run regularly, and I don’t go around the internet willy-nilly downloading potentially dangerous stuff. So what’s up with a hard-drive crash so quickly. Could it be Vista? Is this just a fluke or did I buy a paperweight?
I have spoken to HP and a new hard drive is on its way – at no cost.

The only laptops I trust are Vaio, Lenovo, and Toshiba.
Hard drives just die. Mine did the other day in my iMac. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it happens again.
edit :: And now we know the importance of having a back-up. </guy that always complains about back-ups>
This happened to my last hp desktop. Out of the blue the hard drive fried. Sometimes you just get a lemon. Just make sure you properly vent your computers (desktop or laptop) and the odds of this happening are significantly less (Not that heat WAS the cause, but it is one of many causes that lead to crashes.)
Ah, you’re asking this to a girl who has to keep putting her laptop back together.
The plastic part, around the screen, has popped off on the lower left side. It’s ripping off the computer…I have no explanation for it, possibly how I’ve picked it up, but I don’t know.
It’s a piece of crap to me right now. lol
HP mass produces millions of computers. Invariably a % is going to have a problems. It’s sounds like thyre owning up to their defective product.
HP is just plain junk nowadays. My girlfriend has a laptop that we had to service for 4 years. The engineering gone into the hardware of their products is appalling. The hinges for the screen on her laptop were held to the frame using tiny screws….insanely tiny screws. Screws that were not meant to carry shear forces as large as what is applied to them on a daily basis. The heads shear off every 4 months or so.
I’ve made a promise to myself not to buy HP computers anymore for this very reason. Nothing is built to withstand use past the warranty expiration anymore. I have a ten year old HP DeskJet printer and it’s still goin’. They must’ve just figured out that warranty sales give great revenue.
HD’s die all the time. Its their most reliable feature, eventually (with use) they die. Mac drives are known to die faster then PC drives though. Just use this as a lesson to back up regularly or at least email important documents to yourself.
