It is a happy, for the most part, classic from Disney

The DVD has only been officially released on the PAL VHS versions in the UK and Japan, but there are bootleg DVD copies available in the US, as mentioned above. These are not the top quality you would expect from a studio release, but are viewable on your home DVD player. There is still some talk that a decision to release in the US will be made at the next annual meeting of the Disney board of directors.
You can find bootleg copies on eBay and other similar sites. They are not very high quality but they are at least viewable. It is an exemplar of a different time in America, one that hopefully has gone, never to return.

The ”(apparently racist*) movie is what I am looking for. I personally think the racist part is way over done by todays minorities, which I am one of the biggest. I am Native American.
It is just a kids movie and I really don’t think kids equate it with racism unless their overly sensitive parents make it an issue. The stories told by Uncle Remus could be equated to those told by Asop as far as I am concerned.
i have that movie on VHS. I found a Laserdisc of it years ago, and made a copy. It had a japanese language track, which was amusing.
It is mildly racist, yes. A lot of movies are, including Gone With The Wind. Song of the South has some wonderful moments, and should be rereleased here. (It even has it’s own ride at Disneyland!)

Yes mildly it is but I don’t think kids would pick that out.
am looking for a dvd and now maybe I can find it. ;)
That’s really interesting, Drew. I’m Cherokee, and some of the most racist people I know are Cherokee as well. So goody goody gum drops for you for being “Native American”. Maybe that line works on other people, but even if you’re from the res, it’s not going to cut it with me. Sorry. I’m not an idiot.
According to what I read, it sounded like it really painted slavery as a big party for everyone, and the members of black community consider it offensive.
How do you feel about about the original version Disney’s “Davey Crocket” killing the “redskin varmints”? Do you think children “don’t pick up” on that as well?
But go ahead, order yourself a bootleg copy and enjoy it. I hope you sing along with the original “Davey Crockett” and enjoy how “happy” and “classic” it is, too.

I might just do that. They were both good. Or I should say I enjoyed them. They were kids shows of the time and I am sorry the blacks felt short changed.
Ever read any Mark Twain? ;)
My wife is part Cherokee. I am part Sioux. Neither one of us owns a casino.
When we watch John Wayne movies, we root for the duke. When we watch Dances with Wolves or Little Big Man, we root for the wagon burners. It just now occurs to me that you don’t see a lot of indians in Clint Eastwood westerns.
It would be nice if we could all get to the point where everyone is part every race. It’s a lot harder to hate a group of people when you share blood with them.
One of my friend’s fathers bought a region I DVD in Canada.
