Well I think the point of it being the apocalypse is that we don’t make it through it.

aviona's avatar

We’ll all cuddle together like penguinsnaked (for warmth).

But I think @Randy is right

jrpowell's avatar

Eight years of Bush.. Proof I can make it through anything.

strangeling's avatar

Shouldn’t we use our smarts and find a way? Oops, another question.

We’ll pool our money and buy some land in Montana, start a commune. We’ll be self-sufficient. We’re Flutherites. We can do it.

strangeling's avatar

As long as we include the penguins, I’m all for it!

Which Apocalypse would that be? Can you be a little more specific?

strangeling's avatar

Only a hypothetical one at this stage…tossed out for speculative brain storming…but to nail it a bit more, I do not mean a humanly produced apocalypse…more like the proverbial asteroid or some such…and let’s say that somehow instead of dinoing out, we make it into the next stage…will it be in our present form, will we be like we are now…will we hibernate through it again as maybe happened in other eras…more like that.

Avoid the initial destruction. Anyone who lives in major metropolitan areas is going to die right off the bat

Develop your scrounging capabilities. Everyone should live like a homeless person for at least a year so that they are prepared to survive the apocalypse.

Get in shape. In order to survive the apocalypse you are going to have to do a lot of hard work.

Find a leader and follow them. Someone must survive the apocalypse that can organize the survivors

Apocalypse, etymologically speaking, is the uncovering, or lifting of the veil.
This in no way implies to me a violent ending, simply a transition.

If you want to assume a transition to recognition of the greater world currently beyond our perceptions, then I would expect it to be greeted with awe and wonderment. Much like the experience described by Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.

If you are talking about a small asteroid striking the earth, I think there would be a lot of concern and blame and positive efforts to find a way forward. If you are talking about a large comet, then I would suspect a mixture of fear, prayer and reflection.

We won’t, if we live then its not an Apocalypse.

Some may survive, many will not.

See you at the sanctuary. ;)

I’m thinking an earthquake along the New Madrid Fault will release pockets of natural gas and methane. The earthquake will down powerlines, and the electrical sparks will ignite the natural gas/methane, and we will all go instantaneously in one big fireball. There will be nothing we can do to escape it.

‘Smores, anyone?

benjaminlevi's avatar

Depends, is this a zombie apocalypse?

Read “the Road” by Cormac McCarthy.
It might shed some light on the subject.

I probably won’t. I’m a wuss. However, the people that do survive it won’t be like they are today. As seen in the aftermath of Katrina, it doesn’t take long for a civilized society to break down. I’m guessing it will be total chaos for quite a while, further reducing the size of the surviving population. Then it will be a totally new (or old, depending on your outlook) way of life. Initially, a lot of scavenging, then a return to hunter/gatherer days, and maybe after a long, long while, a return to some type of advanced society.

With the help of Jean-Claude Van Damme and the guidance of Michael Bay, all things are possible.

the `Apocalypse’ is a rhetorical device employed by prophets of varying skill and agendas to guide humanity from impending calamity, the point being – that it is survivable by avoidance only. Politicians like to get in on the act, but they tend to muddle their Prophets with their Profits…

Anyone played the Fallout series?

3or4monsters's avatar

@Randy Have played every game, but have yet to beat a single one. I always get distracted by some other game, then forget where I was in Fallout and give up.

For many people in Banda Aceh (Indonesia) the 2004 tsunami was their apocalypse. Had there been a warning system and drill system (like in Japan for example) many would still be alive. Would there be more people like you asking these very important questions maybe we would prepare better. Maybe politicians would take the issue more seriously. More could be done. Not all volcanoes are observed properly. No tsunami warning system for the Atlantic Ocean. The list goes on.

Crusader's avatar

Perhaps the lack of a warning system in the Atlantic
(on sovereign soul of Indonesia which refuses Western
occupation for Anything,) is an excuse to curry
sympathy with the West, (but mostly money directed
to government officials and their families,)
The True apocolypse, destruction of the world, is
inevitable, but can be delayed…..

mattbrowne's avatar

@Crusader – Yes, ultimately it’s about space flight or extinction, to quote Stephen Hawking.

strangeling's avatar

I like @mammal‘s insight. Avoidance can be achieved more than one way, too. So, our sages have and still are sounding the alarm. If we are to achieve avoidance and continuance for our species or an adpated version thereof, we must do it. It’s up to us to figure it out with help from on high or whatever one wishes to believe….the nuts and bolts reality is that we have to do this. It sure isn’t ever an option to just throw in the towel. We’ve gotten this far in the good ol’ evolutionary ladder (or creative ladder….I really don’t care what you believe there…). So, now what! Time to change, but for real, non? Shall we….or shall we not? Together some group will get it. It must occur. It has to happen. There is no other choice other than not to survive which of course is pretty likely, yet wholly and entirely unacceptable. How about going down fighting, at least….I want to do that.

Crusader's avatar

Yes, Matt and strangeling, Its fight or flight…

Crusader's avatar

Perhaps fight And flight?
