Experiences with Cymbalta?

Asked by aviona (3260points) April 23rd, 2009

Has anyone taken Cymbalta for depression/bipolar disorder? I know it can be taken for pain, generalized anxiety disorder, and fibromyalgia, too.

What is/was your experience? Was it positive or negative overall? Did you have any major side effects, if so, what were they and were the results worth it?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I took Cymbalta for chronic nerve pain and I hated it. I experienced a lot of side effects (which I’m prone to anyway). I felt fuzzy most of the time, like my brain was swimming in my head. I was on it for six months or so, but had to go off because those feelings just wouldn’t go away. Good luck to you, I’ve heard it works wonders for some people.

I know people on it for pain, they don’t seem to have any issues with it. I personally wouldn’t go on it for depression. That’s just a personal opinion though.

@casheroo How come? Any specific reasons?

I’ve read it has a discontinuation syndrome worse than Effexor, and having come off of Effexor XR at least four or five times in my life, I could not handle the syndrome.

Thanks for the advice.

I was on Cymbalta for depression and didn’t like it one single bit. I am not prone to side effects, but that one made me sweat something fierce! I have a touch of hyper-hidrosis anyway, but on Cymbalta I was sweating buckets. Sorry if that was a bit graphic!

No, not at all @SuperMouse. I want to know these things—the good, the bad, the ugly! Thanks for the input.

One. My daughter told me to take one of hers. Never Again. An hour afterwards I was this close to vomiting and I stayed nauseated for hours. Horrible. Why would I even take one? I still don’t know why I did it.
