My computer finally died and I need to replace it. I was set on the 15” until I realized you can’t get the matte screen.
I’m super excited about the battery life on the 17”, I’m just worried it will be too bulky to carry around—but I’m a big guy, and it’s not like I’m trying to get an air.

I won’t carry anything bigger than 14” widescreen, I think it’s perfect.
Not at all!
It is so lightweight, it’s ridiculous. Seriously, before my MBP I had a 17” DELL XPS, now that clunker was unbearable.
The 17 MBP is perfect and so thin. Go for it, mine never annoyed me, and I really hate carrying stuff.
They are about as big as a dinner tray. Yes, they are thin, but they are still huge. If you are looking for a desktop replacement where it’ll usually just be sitting on your desk but you want to be able to move it easily, it should be fine. If you’re going to be traveling a whole lot and always have it on the move, you may want to really think about it. At least look at one in the store if you haven’t seen one before. Close the lid and pick it up and imagine carrying it around a while.
I have a ibm clunker, and I hate carrying it around. When I get a new pc, it will be a smaller mac. Something light. But, I’m not doing stuff as important as you are…
I like the fact that the screen is huge. The battery? Not too shabby. It’s not too heavy of a mac after playing with it at the local Apple Store. It is, however, too big for me. I don’t think I’d quite like having a 17” thing anywhere near me. I like small laptops, because that’s what I think the point of a laptop is. To be a small, portable computer.
My 2 cents.
I think their great, compared to other 17in laptops they are by far the most lightweight and compact. If you can afford it then go for it, you wont be sorry.
@andrew: what’s the update now that you’ve picked the 17? Are you finding it too bulky?
