Who is Susan Boyle, and why is there so much sudden hype over her?

Google her, BBSDTfamily… and I have no idea why there’s so much hype. An average looking person can have a good voice?!?! Alert the media…

Even if she was beautiful looking, I’d still love her! She has the voice of an angel.

I found Hollie’s voice to be gaudy and kind of weird when I heard it. I much prefer Susan.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Hollie turned out to be a fake.

Yeah, I don’t know what to make of Hollie. The bit at the beginning of her act was obviously stupid, but I think purposefully so. If she’s real though, she’s fantastic.

Yeah she definitely has talent, but she sounded like she was trying too hard to be good!
I dunno, I can’t describe it…but something rubbed me the wrong way with her voice.

Who are you talking about? No one is really questioning Susan Boyle; they found an old recording of her from 10 years ago and she was equally as fantastic. People are sceptical of Hollie, though. So no, we aren’t sure.

I guess the surprising thing is that there are far more people who can’t sing so to have someone who can sing is the exception and to be unattractive and have a beautiful voice seems so counterintuitive. We mostly think that beautiful voices look like this and have wings but sometimes they look like this. Sometimes when someone sings exceptional it seems even more profound when the person is not textbook “attractive”.

Just watched Susan Boyle again. Yep. Still gives me goosebumps!

I saw on the news where she got a makeover she got those eyebrows plucked. I wish she’d stayed the same-so she is plain looking…BFD! She still has a beautiful voice!

because the public is shocked that not only can we have pretty girls like miley cyrus who can’t sing like shit and pretty girls like christina aguleira who can sing, but also average/‘unattractive’ people who can sing even better.

i think it’s insulting the way everyone is acting so shocked that this lady can sing. she probably wouldn’t have received as much recognition if she was prettier. it would just be another talented lady, but now she’s treated as if she’s a miracle. she is obviously very talented, but should be praised for her talent, not for being ‘talented despite her looks….’
