Fun things to do in or near stockton CA?
I want to take a close friend out to do something fun, she is graduating and leaving this may. we live in stockton CA and don’t want to drive more than 40 min. my friend is pretty open to new things. she’s kind of dorky, likes to watch documentaries, loves to eat, and likes music. last important thing is we are broke college students so it can’t be too expensive. thanks in advance for any suggestions!

congrats to your friend? do you guys have a car?

You have the whole delta to play in right in your back yard. Just take Hwy 4 or Hwy 12 and head west. Or, you can take 88 out to the recreational areas built around the dams.(Camanche and Pardee)
You are also only about forty minutes from Sacramento where there is shopping, food, entertainment, etc.
If those things don’t interest you, check out who will be at the Bob Hope theater. I hear Bob Dylan is scheduled there soon if you like that type of music.
Also, there is usually something happening at either University of the Pacific or Delta Junior College.
Don’t forget all the great hiking places at Caswell state park and along the other rivers in the area. Also, tubing down the mokualamee is popular when the weather is hot.
Or, head north to Lodi for wine tasting. Lodi grows more grapes than Napa valley and has some great wineries. Check the Lodi city web site for more info.
And, the farmer markets start this week. That’s always fun and cheap.
Hope those suggestions help.
Too bad you just missed the asparagus festival. Well, you could go to nearby Lodi for a little wine tasting or if you don’t mind driving just a little farther, go north on I-5 and get off at J st. and visit Old Sacramento. Other than that I don’t know what else there is in Stockton other than Weberstown or Sherwood Mall.
There is nothing 40 minutes from Stockton. Even Sac will take you about an hour. Cow tipping?

I drive from Stockton to sac on a regular basis and it has never taken me as long as an hour and I drive like a little old lady. (cause I am one)
@tinyfaery- I live in Sacramento. It only takes me about 40 minutes to visit my daughter or my in-laws in north Stockton.
@AstroChuck Depending on traffic. I used to live in Citrus Heights. When we would drive down to L.A. it would sometimes take an hour and a half to get to Stockton.
Stockton stinks, literally.
Based on the night I spent there, the best thing to do in Stockton is to drive I5 out of town. If you have a lot of time, Eureka is a few mountainous hours away.
The best thing i remember about Stockton is you can drive 5 miles, get out of the car and scream every curse word you know, and no one hears you.

@YARNLADY- Pixie Woods? I doubt she’d want to take her friend there unless she is graduating from preschool.
@AstroChuck Oops, I made the list for some friends of the family which included children. hehehe
November 1 through March 31 is beaver hunting season. You are just minutes away from the Sacramento Delta, and there are tons of beavers out there. My friend’s daughter got a 73 pound beaver with her bow last December.
What do you do with a dead beaver?
@tinyfaery Eat it, what else? The meat is delicious, kinda like a cross between pork and duck. I just had some for breakfast.
Tiny
About the dead beaver…. I agree with you….eewwwww!!
@tinyfaery and @basp You never know until you try. Would you rather eat it alive? …said with the understanding that the jokes are too obvious…
I DO NOT eat weird stuff, and beaver classifies as weird. I don’t even eat cow or pig.
strains resisting the obvious jokes I spent a few weeks in China. There are lots of things weirder to eat than cows, pigs, beavers, and chickens.
And I won’t ever eat that stuff either.
For some reason I now think that @ru2bz46‘s comments had some sexual undertones.
@tinyfaery I didn’t mean for them to, but it’s kind of hard to talk about eating beaver without somebody going all “Beavis and Butthead” on you. You should have been there while I was making beaver sausage. I had a six inch wooden rod in my right hand that I was using to stuff the beaver into the hole of the meat grinder. I was speechless.
F**k it! Im going to Denny’s!
