Is my iPhone under warranty replacement condition?

Asked by fortris (683points) April 30th, 2009

I have a crack going from the dock connector’s lower right hand corner that extends about a half an inch outwards, and the sleep/wake button is recessed and hard to press. Is this covered by warranty? (I did not drop or damage the phone in any way) Or do they only replace it if it doesn’t function?

They should fix that if it is under warranty. I have found people at the Apple Store are a lot more willing to give you new stuff than the people on the phone. I would hit up a Apple Store if you are near one and the phone is still covered. You will probably walk out with a new phone.

My phone was cracked and they told me tough shit. not literally, but they might as well have.

Mine was cracked on the screen though and it was because I dropped it.

@Randy They’re very unforgiving of accidents. I suspect they use that to push their protection plan.

I will try the Apple store then. Because the crack keeps getting bigger, and I’ve had my phone in a case since day 1.

@Lothloriengaladriel Saying he lost it will probably be the least helpful thing… the people at Apple don’t care if you lost something. It just means they get to make more of a profit.

Definitely go in and talk to a store rep. I don’t know the details of your warranty, but in my experience they have been very helpful and accommodating when something breaks or spazzes out on me.

@Likeradar Hah, when my earbuds crapped out on me the lady just took me to the headphone section. That was a month after I got them.

@fortris Bummer :( My ipod touch had damage from liquid. I got a new one free, but was told it was a once in a lifetime gift from apple. :)

@fortris The apple earbuds are notoriously cheap. mine broke after 2 months. i used the ones that came with the blackberry work gave me and those are champs.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic I know, I feel bad for shuffle owners. They have been CONDEMNED to the Apple buds. I prefer my Skullcandy Skullcrushers (with built in subwoofers so big they need a AA battery) with my Griffin SmartTalk adapter.

@fortris people keep talking about those. are they an online only retailer?

fortris's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic I got mine from Tuesday morning on sale for only $40, but they were only in theis nasty ugly green. But hey, $30 off is $30 off.

I only said because my friend sold her phone and called tmobile saying she lost it and they DID actually replace it because she had the protection plan, not sure how the iphone warranty works, I was just giving one of the many suggestions.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@fortris I’ll wait for a less ugly color to be $30 off although that’s a good deal.
I’m assuming those are worth $40 in terms of audio quality?

fortris's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic No, they are worth $70 in audio quality. I got them for $40 at $30. You couldn’t do the maths?

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@fortris It’s easy math.
I’ve never known anyone who used those particularly but there are plenty of $100 headphones than in actually dont give the listener $100 worth of quality (aka over priced audio equipment). Anyway, I’m just checking out options at this point. Thanks for the info.

@The_Compassionate_Heretic Okay, quick survey,

1. Do you know what D&B is?
2. Do you know what junglesound is?
3. Do you like either?
4. Do you like heavy bass?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, strongly consider Skullcrushers.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@fortris—I’ve been all over all that. heh heh
I don’t listen to that stuff so much these days anymore but yes, heavy bass is important to me. I’ll look into it thx—
