I happen to think that Obama is very diplomatic but not a pushover. I really don’t have any worries about him having enough steel when he needs it. How did he get as far as he did? I don’t confuse listening to people and thinking before you respond with softness.
I agree with janbb. Being a skilled diplomat is a sign of strength. He is smart enough to know when and how to use his power.
I don’t think Obama is a nice guy. I don’t think he’s a jerk, but I don’t think you can be a politician at that level and be nice. yes, i’m cynical
@hug_of_war: Me too. You have to be hardened and impersonal to at least some extant in order to run a nation.
@basp hit the nail on the head in my opinion.
I piety the fool who mistakes his kindness for weakness. Look at the pirates!
Nice guys don’t end up as President, unless they are also really tough and know how to get other people to make deals. I don’t think he will have a problem.
We in the Caribbean saw Mr. Obama at work (at the 5th Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain). Your President is neither weak nor stupid.
Being a decent human being (assuming he is) does not equal weakness.
I understand that Mr. Obama had a conversation with Mr. Chavez, which was seen and filmed but nobody could hear what they said. According to Fox, from the body language, the conversation was unfriendly, and Mr. Obama appeared to be having the best of it. Has anybody seen that particular segment?
