On what subject? Then I may be able to help you.
Any subject really, after around 20 minutes of any subject i just lose interest as i get frustrated at not being able to take on board whats being said.
For instance if any changes happen at work, the MD will tell us how why and where and my colleagues take it all in but i have to bluff and pick my colleagues brains after the meeting is over. However if i am shown how then it’s easy, sort of “monkey see monkey do”.
…in a psychology class, the book we used had several techniques- none worked for me as well as just reading through once…
…on really boring subjects, i anchor the boring stuff to a subject i enjoy like running- it is amazing how non-like subjects can be so much alike…
…nothing like a good night’s sleep- good luck and good night!
I would rule out physical causes first.
Vitimin deficiency
Diet (are you getting enough protien. Are you eating regularly)
Anemia
Diabetes
Insomnia or poor quality of sleep.
Those are just a few of the physical causes of what you are describing.
I have the same problem. I write things down. I write it down the first timei hear it. (this requires a pen and paper always on hand). Then, later I sort through my notes and categorize them and re write them.
After that, if it is something I really need to be on top if, like information for work, I will write it down again with the original information and any additional notes/questions I may have.
Then, prior to beginning on the task, especially if it is compliacated, I may even write it all out again with a different format to make sure I hav’t forgotten any detail.
I know this is a lot of writing and it is laborious, but, it works for me.
Thanks basp i will try that. Although it does not solve the underlying problem it covers over the cracks and stops you looking like a numpty infront of your peers.
asmonet seems to think it could be ADD so i will look at that also but at 47 is it something one can rectify?
Fagin…. I’m in my mid fifties and I don’t know if it is something that can be rectifyed or not. I’ve always been this way since I was a kid. I just accept it, learn how to meet the challenge, and carry on.
Im suffering the same and i am really sick of it.
