What does it mean to be identified as a "Troll" in Fluther?

It means you are probably doing something you shouldn’t be.

It means you’re asking questions and making responses with the goal of getting people agitated rather than with the goal of having interesting discussions.

It could also mean you’re standing up for your beliefs and rights.

The same as is does if your are identified as a troll in any internet community, ie posting controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages with the intent of pissing people off.

@spresto—you’re right. However, if someone keeps on making assertion after assertion with absolutely no evidence to back those assertions up, then they really aren’t a serious person. That means they are just trying to rile others up. Now, to some extent, I hold people responsible for letting themselves be riled up. I’ve experienced this over and over with Crusader, so I know that he’ll say anything to make a point, but it’s just because he has a particular point of view and has no interest in letting the facts get in the way of his opinions.

If I fall into his trap, I have only myself to blame. I might let myself give one or two answers, but then I walk away. I know he isn’t listening, so what’s the point of talking? That’s troll-like behavior. However, I don’t believe he should have his posts deleted or be banned from the site. I think that anyone can “vote with their feet” if they want to. It is not necessary to have the last word.

As an individual, I get to judge for myself. Not for anyone else. Mods can judge for the entire site. I think if enough individuals make the same judgment, the person being judged will get a message. They may not react to it, but they will get it.

Anyone trying to begin their time on here with a “flame war”.

I addition to posting for the intent to cause controversy sometimes trolls also post with the intent to amuse on another web site.

@gailcalled I agree Dallon’s posterior is much nicer and has the added benefit of being a good world reference.

Really what is the problem. I see sarcastic remarks all the time. The second I put one down I am obviously a menace to the site. I am not a fan of being ganged up on. Finally, the more you do it the worse I will get. Try being nice to me and respect my thoughts no matter how sarcastic they may be and you might be surprised.

@daloon I don’t care if the fluther gets riled up or not. I just want them to keep their personal opinions about me out of the conversation. Who cares if I write something crude.

@cprevite a valid point. However, if the fluther did not understand the question or took offense to it…why comment? You could have easily ignored it. But obviously some folks do have an issue with me. So I created the string so they could get it out of their system. I personally wish them the best, but they don’t know me and are fools for getting so keyboard tappy over a website.

You know, I’m not really sure. TaoSan once called me a troll, but I don’t know why. At the time I had around 9000 lurve, and I am known for saying what I think. I must admit that at times I say off-handed comments to people I know will be irritated by it. But it’s usually very subtle, and I only do it to certain people—people who I don’t like.
