I did once, at a state fair. My grandfather was a dairy farmer as a young man, so he showed me what to do.

I raise goats, so I haven’t milked a cow, but I have milked many goats. Cows just have twice as many faucets :>)

Yes, my grandparents used to have a farm, and a family friend owned a dairy farm. Once when i was about 8–10 I was at the dairy farm and my brand new jelly shoe fell down into the hold (the walkway was high above) and I screamed like I was dying! On of the hands ran over and jumped down into the hold, fought a few hundred cows away from my shoe, grabbed it and cleaned it for me. That guy was awesome.

Nope! Not really something I’m dying to try.

@elijah Great story! I had no idea cows had such a thing for jelly shoes!!!

I grew up in the country. We had a few animals, but no cows. Our neighbors had both cows and goats. I’ve milked both. I prefer the goats because you put them on a little stand and milk them, you don’t have to hunch over like you do to milk a cow. Plus, if a goat decides to kick you, it’s going to hurt a little less than if a cow takes a mind to.

Yep. When I went on retreats in school, in elementary and middle school. We’d go milk cows just for the experience.

I “helped” a friend of the family milk a cow on her farm when I was knee-high to a grasshopper. I was so young, I don’t really remember it- my mom just tells me I did. I’m sure I didn’t really contribute to any actual expression of milk.

she told me that was extra.

I milked a cow. But she really was not my type. So we broke up.

Grew up in a rural area, milked many many cows. a few by hand, but most by machine. You just gotta get the suckers on them teats.

What? Milk comes from a cow? I thought it was born in the plastic jug.

@Zen Great question. You the man, Zen.

I used to work on a diary farm. I’ve milk MANY cows. It was a great job for the most part. The part that sucks the most is cleaning up after you milk them. I mean cleaning their poo from the holding pen in case you were wondering.

One time I was dating a girl that loved cows. I took her on a “date” to work. Haha, we had a good time.

Never a cow, but I used to go to a farm during the summer and milk goats every day. I love that.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

@Zen don’t understand

Zen's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir It means: I don’t understand whether you have or haven’t milked a cow, as I don’t read Russian – if that really is Russian? No worries.
