Can you add pages to Tumblr?

Asked by bigkid (12points) May 6th, 2009

I basically would like to add details to the ‘about’ page etc of this tumblr blog http://arcadeagency.tumblr.com/

It appears they have done so here http://www.dopefiend.ca/ so I’m hoping I can too.

Thanks for your help.

I think what they are doing here is they have a domain name that points to the tumblr account. But they are actually hosting the pages outside of tumblr. I signed up for a account and couldn’t find a way to add other pages.

That is my best guess.

Yeah.. I ran a traceroute on it. It looks like the pages are coming from two different servers. See here.

edit :: The tumbler ones are coming from rackspace. The other ones are hosted on dreamhost. This makes sense.

You could make posts for your pages and then link to them from the frontpage.

That’s a great idea, thanks a lot!

You’re quite welcome.

Do you know how to make a navigation bar under a header?
Something like this, http://gary.tumblr.com would be awesome, but whatever I can find will also work.

What you can do is to make a private post. In the Dashboard, click on “share” and the actual URL of that post appears. Use that to link to this post just like a page. It will use your Tumblr-Theme like an extra page but it won’t appear in your stream of posts like the others! This way you “simulate” extra pages in Tumblr.

Ok I may be a little slow at this code stuff but the two answers (quoted below) seem really good but I’m not sure what they mean I feel like a step is missing. I’m sorry if this is annoying I just need a little extra help. Thank you in advance for any help.

You absolutely can add pages to tumblr. Go to “Customize” and in the top control bar there is a button called “Pages” with which you can add all the pages your heart desires. And themes are designed to display all pages with the same style as the rest of the blog.

hope that helps

Here’s how to post to a page:

We’ll use the imaginary blog http://cuteslimythings.tumblr.com and create a page called Frogs as an example

1. Create your page (or go to pages to edit an existing page) and enter the tumblr blog URL plus /frogs so it should look like http://cuteslimythings.tumblr.com/frogs

2. Select page type: redirect. Next to Redirect To, type http://cuteslimythings.tumblr.com/tagged/frogs

3. Make sure you write Frogs next to Show a Link to This Page and make sure the box is checked

Each time you create a post that you want to appear on that page, you will tag it frogs and it will appear on the Frogs page (but unfortunately, because it’s a blog and not a website, your post will also appear on your tumblr home page. This is just the nature of blogs. There may be a way to hack that also, say by limiting the number of posts to that home page, but not sure how). You can also go back and tag previous posts with that same tag and they will show up on that page. Also, keep in mind that some themes do not support pages. I’m sure there’s a way to change that in the HTML editor but I don’t know how to do it.

Good Luck!
