What happens to my IE and favorites if I have to download Firefox?

Asked by rowenaz (2441points) December 17th, 2007

I am taking an on-line class, and the Office Hours “Chat Window” won’t work. I keep getting an “Error on Page” – the students in the class that never have a problem are doing the course through Firefox, and suggested that I download. What happens to my other web browser if I do this? Yeah, I’m not the most PCLiterate, but I do get by. Would I have an icon on my desktop that would be for Firefox, and then I could use that only for going to that on-line course? It’s not anything to do with a pop up blocker, because I’ve even turned it off, and it still doesn’t work. Thanks for your help.

you can import all your IE favorites onto firefox. As a matter of fact, the first time you run Firefox, it will give you a dialog box asking you what you want to import from Internet Explorer. Nothing happens to your other browser (IE) and yes you can only use firefox for your course using the firefox icon on your desktop.

Heres a tutorial on how to install firefox and import bookmarks (favorites) :

Note that if you would want to remove IE that would probably not be that easy because Microsoft has made Windows dependent on it. Technically, it’s possible, but not worth the hassle. Good luck with your online class.

If you install Firefox, you will still be able to use IE whenever you want to. Firefox will copy your favorites, but you’ll still have those favorites available in IE.

So don’t worry—nothing bad will happen to IE.

Thank you everybody. I downloaded Firefox, and everything is working for my web-based course. And it’s faster, too! I am keeping the IE, though, and never thought to delete it.
