Favorite things to do while in New York City?
I lived in New York for about 16 years and have been back almost every year since i moved. Now im 21 and back in the city for the summer trying to find all the interesting things i never cared to do before here.
My mom showed me around the Cloisters (Ft. Tryon) and i know a lot of Manhattan and all the tourist stuff, but what are the other awesome things i can see in the city?
What is your favorite thing to do, place to visit when you are in NYC?

I’m sure you know that (for the moment) the Staten Island Ferry is free. Just get right back on at St George or you’ll be stuck 20 minutes at the terminal, which is boring, even with the new mini-aquarium that’s been installed.
Prospect Park in Brooklyn is lovely. They have a lot of great concerts at the Bandshell in summer, many of them free.
The Paley Center for Media (formerly The Museum of Television and Radio) is awesome for all the history they hold.
Coney Island: The Wonder Wheel. The Cyclone. The Siren Festival. ‘Nuff said.
There’s going to be so many free concerts this summer. I’m most looking forward to Ted Leo’s on Pier 54 in July.
And I know you’re gonna have some chicken and waffles up in Harlem!
Actually from Harlem and never been lol.
I think im gonna have to hit that Center for Media i wouldnt mind checking that kind of stuff out.
The Museum of Sex !!!!!
I also rather enjoy the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, the Eastville Comedy Club, and riding the lift to Roosevelt Island.
The New Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and the International Center for Photography are all museums that a lot of people haven’t visited.
Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center, the Bronx Zoo, MOMA, Guggenheim, The Frick, window shopping on Fifth Avenue, walking thru Central Park.
Also, check out Free NYC. It has daily posting of free events, bar and club specials, concerts, and other fun stuff.
I like to get lost in the Lower East Side. For example, here are three amazing things I found by randomly strolling in that area: a really good pickle store, a gourmet donut store [you gotta try the peanut butter and jelly donut], and a really cool rubber stamp store with designs dating back a century or so.
I’d also hit some parties/bars in Brooklyn, since I lived there for a bit and like the vibe (for lack of a better word).
Art openings or ongoing shows are always fun: free cheap booze and affordable/ interesting art.
I lived on the Upper East Side and I loved going to the free Friday nights at MOMA. I also just liked going to Central Park when the weather was nice and sitting in the grass reading or talking with friends.
Oh and going to the resteraunt Agra on 63rd and Lex
Top of the Rock
Grays Papaya
Central Park (I love it!)
Or just walk around. You’ll probably find something.
