Where can I find good statistics, authorities to support my Pro auto industry bail out argument essay?

Asked by kutelilkat (279points) May 11th, 2009

I tried looking online myself… where do I get this type of info? Should I just watch the news? I’ve heard different figures so I’m confused.

I have to be FOR the bail out in my essay. I need a site which has good statistics on how many would loose their jobs, what effects it would have on the economy etc… reliable sources and info/quotes from good authorities

You could try searching political websites (like CNN, Fox, Politico, NBC, etc).. In their articles about the auto industry they often have statistics. They will probably have numbers on how many people are directly and secondarily employed by the auto industry (ala their workers, and workers of businesses that depend on the auto industry). They would also have predictions of what may happen should they go under. The thing to keep in mind is that most of those sites are fairly biased (NBC and Fox in particular). CNN and Politico wouldn’t be TOO bad, though individual reporters usually carry their own bias (you’ll be hard pressed to find someone who’s either dead center on the issue, or a good enough reporter to leave their bias at the door).

Good luck.

I would try government sites like the federal reserve site or the mint or at least the news feeds from those sites since they have more internal reporting. Sites like that. You may always just want to call the library of congress – they are SUPER helpful about everything. Make some calls, don’t just rely on internet searches. A person on the phone will always have more valuable information for you and it looks better in the paper too that you actually talked to someone about it rather than just pulled the info from a book/site.

I would personally avoid 3rd party news sources as much as you can since they will always be biased in some way.

Writing FOR the bailout is hard…or rather an additional bailout since they already blew through their cash in the 1st quarter. The only reason the government is trying to help keep the companies from going under is so unemployment doesn’t go through the roof and torpedo us into a recession. They’re hoping that they can fight the inflation they’ll bring on from printing money better than unemployment.

Best of luck though. : ]

Hopefully my answer was before you had to finish the paper :p And I’d be interested in reading that essay if you were inclined to share it.
