Why do some of my BluRay movies not have a menu?

Asked by syz (36034points) May 12th, 2009

I’m getting some kind of error or bug in about every 4th or 5th movie. It loads, the previews play, and then that annoying loop starts that normally leads to the menu (“play movie”, “special features”, “movie set up”), but the menu never pops up. Or most recently, it popped up, disappeared, and I couldn’t get it back.

Occasionally, I get the “your player needs to be updated” error message, but I’ve checked, and there is no update for this player. It seems to be a default error message anyway, ‘cause I’ll sometimes get that message when just reloading the disc allows me to play the movie.

Any idea why this is happening? Anyone know of a way around it? It’s incredibly frustrating to get the disc in the mail, sit through all of the start up crap, and then be unable to watch it.

You may need to download new firmware for your device. I have to do that on occasion.

There is no new firmware – I’ve checked.

Then I don’t know, sorry.
