Why can't I locate a file on my Creative Zen?

Asked by Chukkamans (4points) May 13th, 2009

When I transfer a particular mp3 file to my Creative Zen I am unable to find it on the player. It is viewable from Windows Explorer as being in the Music folder and the change in memory capacity seems to indicate it is there, but it is nowhere to be found in the player menu. I have even tried renaming the file to see if there was something about the name that it didn’t like but that didn’t help either. I have recently reformatted the player and installed the latest firmware. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

My guess is that the ID3 tags are wonky. They might have some unicode characters in them that the player can’t deal with.

ID3 tags are the metadata that has stuff like song name, artist, and album. I would just zero out that data and see if it works. I don’t really use Windows so I don’t know what software you would use to alter the ID3 tags.

It took me a while but I finally got around to trying this. It seemed like a good solution but it hasn’t worked. I have in the meantime transferred it to my PSP and listened to it from there with no problem at all. So there really doesn’t seem to be any issue with the file itself or the tags. Why then can it not be recognised by a Creative Zen mp3 player? Once again, any suggestions will be gratefully received.
