Does anyone know a good pro-consumer camera for $1000 or under?
I need a good camera, not something you buy at Best Buy or Wal-mart, but something that has the capabilities to make professional quality video, any suggestions?

You are unlikely to find a new “Prosumer” camera under $1000, though are quite a few high end amateur at that price – not one capable of producing professional work. You might want to look at a good used system.
Can you elaborate on prosumer? Do you mean not professional and not point and shoot? Somewhere in between? Both canon and nikon have models under $1000. You need to spend time researching what kind of photos will be taken in order to choose which brand and/or lenses you want to purchase. dpreview.com and the-digital-picture.com are good for this.
You asked about video, now someone is responding mentioning P&S. They are two different types of camera. Are you looking for a digital still camera or a video camera? There are many cameras, both P&S and DSLR that have video, but NONE of them will produce quality professional video, although they are very capable of producing professional standard photographs. I responded with regard to video, not photographic cameras. Can you clarify in case I got the wrong idea?
@DarkScribe: Check out the tags, I think you were right.
no, not that you would find outside of bestbuy AND be under $1000. the sony EX1 or EX3) are the best “pro-sumer” cameras out there and they go for around $6–9,000 (and thats considered EXTREMELY cheap for a camera in the film industry) other than that, youre only left with what you would find online (amazon) or electronic stores.
Nope.
But try the Canon HV20 or HV30. You can see people doing great stuff with it and a lot of third party mods and add-on stuff.
The new Canon T1i is under $1000 and does regular pictures and high definition video.
