Orthostatic Hypotension, most likely.
I don’t think it’s normal that happens to me all the time especially when I’m watching tv and it’s dark in my room and when I go out of it I feel dizzy and everything is black and I feel like if I’m falling down. Thanks for asking that I needed to know why too.
@hearkat : I looked up Orthodtatic Hypotension and it says that it increases with age.. and Im only 20!!!!!!!
Or low blood pressure in general…
Is it lighteadedness or spinning?
@Tink1113 : Sometimes, as this is happening to me, my vision gets really blurry and I see dark spots… as if I might faint.. does this happen to you too???
@hearkat: Its more like as if I’m about to faint…
Yes May that’s the feeling
Then it’s low blood pressure… when you stand up, your cardiovascular system has to adjust to the change in ‘altitude’ to get blood to the brain. If it can’t adjust fast enough, you get lightheaded.
It happened to me much more in my teens and early 20s.
@Tink1113: Add the fact that you’re staring at the bright T.V. then getting up in a dark room, and your vision is momentarily impaired by the retina burn… like when you go indoors from being outside on a sunny day. If you can’t see as well, it’s more challenging for your equilibrium to handle sudden movements.
@hearkat : Thanks a lot!! I had no idea!!!!!
That’s what the collective is for!! Welcome to Fluther—both of you!
(and @May2689: Happy Birthday a little early, in case I don’t get a chance to tell you before then)
@Tink1113: I am an Audiologist, which is a hearing and balance specialist (not a physician).
There are quite a few Doctors and other medical professionals on Fluther.
Oh so do you treat deaf people?
@Tink1113: Yes, some of my patients are deaf; but most are hearing impaired. I’ve worked with all ages, from premature newborns to people I’ve 100!
Oh I know a little about deaf people because I have sign language at school and the teacher has a deaf son
Eat a banana. Every day. See if that helps.
I get the same thing, plus temporary loss of vision. They told me (for me) that it was most likely low blood pressure. What you feel is the blood rushing away from your head.
A banana? I tried not getting up, worked wonders!
I get the same thing as @La_chica_gomela But, I know I have on the lower end of normal blood pressure, so I relate it to that and to being dehydrated.
If it’s happened ALL the time, then I don’t think it’s normal.
It also happened to me when I had anemia.
I don’t lose vision, but I do get dizzy when I stand or sit up quickly. I’m not sure why though. :(
@mangeons: is it lightheadedness or spinning? do you see stars or dark spots, or is there absolutely no visual change at all?
Low blood pressure, Im no doctor but I did do a tilt table test for the same thing and I stopped breathing for 37 seconds I did this test in the hospital. Im on medication now only because my blood pressure is way low!
@hearkat Sometimes I see dark spots, but it’s mainly just lightheadedness and I have to sit down quickly.
It also happens when I stretch really big after standing up, I get dizzy and I have to sit down again.
@mangeons: that also sounds like low blood pressure.
@casheroo: That’s what I thought too! Surprisingly, after going around and around with my primary care physician and a few specialists, they’ve all concluded that there’s nothing wrong with me, even though it happens to me at least once a day.
Side note: When I said low blood pressure, I meant on the low end of normal, not abnormally low.
Whenever a nurse takes my blood pressure, they’re just delighted with it. I’m like, ‘yeah, you try having whatever numbers you just said, see how “excellent” it really is…’
@skfinkel : Im eating my bananas now. So far so good!!
