If someone on Fluther claimed to be a celebrity, would you believe them?
Yep, the title is pretty self-explanatory.

Nah. If they were a celebrity it’s unlikely they’d claim to be one…
By the way, the name’s Jolie. Angelina Jolie.
I wouldn’t care enough to dis-believe them,
Actors etc are WAY over-rated.
We have some quasi-celebs and one or two acutal celebs. I believe them because I’ve talked with them. If you’re curious… (they act just like regular jellyfish)... check out the gardening questions…
Maybe, but I don’t think someone would try n prove anything!
I wouldn’t believe nor care.
Ok. Ok. You guys caught me. I’m Ernest Borgnine.
I don’t think it would matter. I am most interested in people’s thoughts and ideas in this setting. If they really were a celebrity, it would only serve as trivia.
No, They have to much class and to many important things to do than associate with people like us, that sit at a computer and answer crazy questions.
I am one :P
ok, depends on how you define “celebrity”. But why wouldn’t I believe them? Sure, some people might be lying, but others might not. Who cares anyway? I believe people on fluther who say they are teachers, or gay, or can drive a car with a manual gearbox. And I assume everyone’s giving their real age and weight, and tells us where they really live, when geography becomes an issue. So someone saying they’re a celebrity has about as many chances of being true as someone saying they just had an operation.
@Jack79 Ok you caught me, I am 5 lbs heavier than I said, but I do plan on losing it.
I would believe them because it doesn’t matter to me if they are a celebrity. I’m just here for the questions and answers.
It depends on what you consider a celebrity. An actor or singer that is well known to everyone around the world, or someone who is famous in a non traditional way. Someone here may hold the title of the worlds top (fill in the blank) and most of the “regular” people wouldn’t even have a clue who they were.
@justwannaknow Celebrity does not equal class.
elijah, most of them think it means class and they are better than the rest of the world. NO ALL OF THEM!
celebrities are just the same as everyone else. Cut em up with a chainsaw and you have 180+ lbs of gooey goodness to feed the inhabitants of the local crocodile farm. Crocs don’t care if you are a homeless guy or a millionaire, all meat tastes the same.
I don’t understand the fascination with celebrities. If they aren’t Stephen Hawking, or someone that has actually contributed something of REAL value to the world, what’s the point of fawning over them?
i’m a porn star. my name is Miles Long.
I wouldn’t believe it if they said it here.if they said it on video then I’d believe it
i believe eponymoushipster.
If it was an established jelly who had a history of not trolling and who didn’t seem to have something to prove, then sure. I’d believe them.
Who cares what you do to earn a living really? Fluther is more about what’s inside your head than what you do in your non-Fluther existence. If you say you are a celebrity, who am I to tell you that you aren’t? And if you want to talk about your celebrity it is quite possible I will ignore you because I am not particularly interested in the subject.
Just to clarify: I wasn’t saying that I would care one way or another if someone was a celebrity. I was just asking if they would be believed, should someone claim to be one. I’m not one of the people in the world who fawns over someone because they’re a “star”.
No. If someone with a nick called “Bruce Willis” with his face as avatar, I would probably not believe it was him.
I wouldn’t really care, since thats just how they earn a living. I imagine some larger celebrities would want to keep that on the down low, since everything they say could be quoted.
I am not now, nor have I ever been a celebrity, but I wouldn’t turn down fifteen minutes of fame (so long as that’s all it was).
@justwannaknow I am not convinced that any celebrity has any more class than the folks here on Fluther. I am also not convinced that celebrities are too good to associate with the likes of us Flutherites.
As for whether or not I would believe someone who claimed to be a celebrity. My guess is that for people in the public eye, part of the lure of the internet is anonymity, hence they wouldn’t “come out” to the Collective. So no, I would probably not believe them. Except for you @eponymoushipster, I’ve seen too many of your films not to trust you are who you say you are.
@SuperMouse You’ve seen eponymoushipster’s films? Wow, what were they like?
Dr. Phil was hanging around here for a while. And no, I did not believe it was him. I couldn’t resist telling him how much I love his show.
I would be intrigued and probably go crazy trying to figure out who it was only to find out they were screwing with me all along! :(
