How do you import your email messages from Outlook Express on XP to Windows Mail on Vista?

Asked by ram201pa (621points) May 23rd, 2009

I had no problem with my contacts, but all my emails are proving to be a real pain. They are in a .dbx file and I can’t get them to import to WM. The import wizard does not find the file. They are not read only files. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

found a link here with easy instructions off the MS site http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/53e5df86-5ffb-43cf-a0c8-164e3fe7994f1033.mspx remember if you ever load Office 2007 onto Vista it will update you to Outlook, also you can get Live Mail or something, it was intended as a replacement for Mail that comes with Vista and its a lot better ild say…or if you like you can automate the process with this free software http://www.mailstore.com/en/mailstore-home.aspx I used this before I switched to Ubuntu and Gmail and I can say its probably your easiest bet also backs up everything just encase!

Have you tried selecting all of your e-mails, dragging them from Outlook Express to a folder in Windows Explorer, and then dragging them back to Windows Mail? Not sure if it works with Windows Vista, but that’s what I did when I needed to transfer mails from one computer to another.
