Does the bible say pedophilia is wrong?
I think it’s wrong but does the bible say having an attraction to kids is wrong?
Is pedophilia a sin?
I know most normal people would say it is but does god say it is?

I’m a bit worried here. Are you trying to justify something you’ve done…?
@Lightlyseared I think this is one of what I like to call the “bad” atheists. The folks I wish weren’t on my side. The ones who are out to “prove” that the Bible and religion in general are bunk, rather than just letting people believe what they want so long as it doesn’t interfere with themselves. The logic of his/her post being “Well this is clearly wrong, but the Bible doesn’t condem it, therefore the Bible is wrong, therefore your religion is wrong, therefore God doesn’t exist, THEREFORE I’M RIGHT!!!!!!111one”
I strongly dislike this particular form of atheism. It gives the rest of us a bad name.
I agree with MrItty, let them believe whatever they want to believe.
Apparently not. According to biblical scholars the virgin Mary was supposed to be around fourteen years old when she got pregnant by God, who was at least a couple thousand then.
holy crap, is this the trolliest question ever?
God is a very smart being, and seeing as he designed us, it should be pretty obvious that he made us hit puberty at the age he wanted us to start making babies.
He never intended for us to have to restrain ourselves for 5 years while our hormones rage.
@pikipupiba flagged for advocating pedophilia and statutory rape.
i agree with pikipupiba, i don’t think we are supposed to hold back those raging hormones. seems stupid. but in today’s society, it’s not acceptable, so what’s good for the goose is good for the gander in this case and old man weirdy needs to keep it in his pants.
While I sort of understand what @pikipupiba is saying, I would replace “God” with “Mother Nature.” I would also argue that when tweens hit puberty they don’t automatically want to have sex all the time. So, to me, that says that nature is preparing our bodies for later, rather than saying “You’re 11, go make a baby!” Most young adults are smart enough to know to wait until they are responsible enough to take care of a child. It seems in Biblical days, children married and had babies early under pressure from their parents. Of course that’s not an absolute… and there are indeed 13 year olds today having sex willfully. I disagree with a 22 year old having consensual sex with a 17 year old being named a pedophile. There are obvious maturity issues to consider when saying someone is fit or unfit for sexual activity. And what about intent? I don’t believe loving a person who is under 18 (which is just some made up age of adulthood, by the way) makes someone a pedophile. Having sexual feelings for someone because he/she is a child makes one a pedophile. I lost the point I was making…
@ubersiren I don’t know what point you wanted to make, but that was very well written.
Disobeying rationality, I followed this thread. Now i’m gone
In biblical times, teens weren’t generally looked on as children. Average life expectancies were shorter than now so people got to making marriages and families earlier, social maturity was expected earlier. I like what @ubersiren says, ”Having sexual feelings for someone because he/she is a child makes one a pedophile.”
Personally, I don’t consider anyone past 12yrs old a child anymore but a youngster, a teen, an in-betweenie. Adults attracted to teens aren’t necessarily pedophiles, more like lechers. Youngsters sexually attracted to one another is natural, teens attracted to teens is natural. Teens attracted to adults is natural but it’s the adult’s responsibility to not take advantage of the attraction.
@MrItty : Good point… that too. Not the only point, but a good point.
I have never heard a Bible say anything.
Maybe you are thinking of Dora’s map.
@pikipupiba Although I don’t actually believe in God where as I just believe that there is something that controls the universe but not sure what it is, it could be a god or anything, but whatever created us I believe you are correct, we shouldn’t have others trying to restrain us for 5–6 years while we have raging hormones and stuff
@cprevite Whenever a child starts wanting to stick their reproductive organ in or around the reproductive organ of the opposite sex.
it was a different culture. i’m not religious by any means, but the culture of the people in the bible at that time was clearly different (which is applicable to just about a million other things the bible says vs what should be today, but that’s a whole ‘nother angry fired up thread that’s been answered a million times already). at that time, the norm was to have children, get married, etc at a young age, so it wasn’t really pedophilia. the idea just wouldn’t make sense. it was commonplace, and not thought of as negative until things came to be as they are now.
Yeah I really don’t believe that average life expectancy was 20–30. At least not according to the bible. Look at how long Arphaxad, Moses, or any pre-flood people lived.
It says “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in Me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea” (Matthew 18:10)
“A man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. And the two will become one flesh” Genesis 2:24
That’s where we get the phrase “marriage is between one man and one woman for life” and “save sex for marriage”.
But I also believe another principle is taught here. That God’s design is for the child/teen to be first reared/nurtured within the home and then when they gain independence, they can marry whomever they wish.
I believe that pedophiles are not bad. I am a christian and I don’t find this anywhere in the bible saying it’s wrong.
