Are you interested in starting a print magazine or an online magazine?
Obviously, doing an online startup is going to cost you less, and it will be less risk. If you are looking to start a print magazine, I would suggest that you start it off by printing yourself to reduce costs in the long run. Once it got a good following then you could have it printed 3rd party somewhere in a higher volume.
Will you create and design this magazine yourself? Will you be doing all of the content and photography? Will you need to pay contributors?
To make money, obviously you need advertisers or someone that will back you financially to get it off of the ground. There are several options depending on what you have in mind for this magazine.
