Do you think I need to write an abstract for my research paper if my only audience is my professor?
Obviously I haven’t written a lot of research papers, but I was lookin up the parts of a research paper, and the purpose of having an abstract seems to be kind of moot. This is just for one of my political science classes and the only person thats gonna be looking at it is my professor.

Yes, always. The process focuses your thoughts and lends emphasis.
yeah but I will be honest, a lot of the papers I am looking at online that are samples just bust straight into a thesis/introduction.
Just ask the prof! Is it that freakin hard?
I would if it wasn’t 4:42am in the morning. I don’t think she would appreciate that. And fluther is more fun anyways.
like every great college student, of course its due tomorrow lol I did all the research im just hammering out pages now.
And by “tomorrow”, I suppose I meant, “in a few hours” for you. Lovely.
nah its 10 hours from now
You’re my hero! Plenty of time. (I’m doing a project now that’s due at 5pm)
You probably do need the abstract. It should be easy to write and fills up 1/2 page with stuff you know already. You might even get it from your intro.
BTW 30 years from now you will still be writing and submitting stuff at the last minute.
lol thanks, and yeah right now a half a page would help out really nicely, So even if I didn’t need one, I think I will write one just to fill up some space.
It adds a nice professional look to the paper and the prof can cut and paste into his tenure file if he needs it.
Hey, I’ll edit yours if you edit mine. (Um…just kidding )
NOW let’s get the hell off here and do our work!
Well maybe one more check…
Did you get it done? Almost 3pm and I just got a reprieve from “the governor”! I can turn it in on Monday! Still got a lot of hours to go… What the hell am I dong here?
Probably part of the point is for you to learn how to handle all the parts of a research document. It’s practice, as are many school assignments. Even if it’s not required, having to extract the essence is a good exercise and will help you discover whether you have accomplished what you intended to do. Also writing brief summations is an art in itself and one you will probably have many uses for, whether you ever use what your research taught you or not.
lol sorry for the slow response, i passed out after i finished and turned it in, then woke up 3 hours later to work until 12:30 that night. But yeah i got it done and it turned out pretty decent I think. Thats awesome that you got till Monday to do it, I did put the abstract in there, I think it does add to the research paper, and even if its not needed im sure she won’t take any points of for having it. And no i probably won’t ever use the research I did, it was about the role and status of women in poland. Unless that some how comes up in conversation one day, but I doubt it. lol
I’ve got lots of time! Due at 5 EDT. Sure is nice outside… I wonder if I got any lurve last night… I need to clean the desk… Did I tighten the oil drain plug in the car? And so it goes…
My research papers were very technical: “Factors Affecting the Tightening Characteristics of Bolts” and “Novel application of Shape Memory Alloys in DC Motor Design”. I’m not even going to get into what my Master’s thesis was about! Public disclosure would push my apparent geekiness beyond BBT’s Sheldon.
It’s Tuesday morning 8:00am. I got my stuff in on time! I just spoke with the reviewer and he said so many people are not on track they are extending the final delivery date to 6/17!!! Darn! I was all on track to finish everything by 6/12. Now what will I do? It is another nice day today… Garden needs weeding. Oh! Is that a dandelion I see in the lawn? Gotta’ go did it out! Oh look! A squirrel!
