Do kids need passports or passport cards?
At the end of June we are planning a family vacation to Glacier National Park. My sons, ages 9 and 13, will be along and we would like to go into Canada. My hubby and I have passports but what about my sons? Do they need passports/cards? I’ve heard they can just use certified copies of their birth certificates?

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: Entry into Canada is solely determined by Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officials in accordance with Canadian law . Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada carry both proof of citizenship and proof of identity. A valid U.S. passport, passport card or NEXUS card (see below) satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens. If U.S. citizen travelers to Canada do not have a passport, passport card or approved alternate document such as a NEXUS card, they must show a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver’s License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or expired U.S. passport. Children under sixteen need only present proof of U.S. citizenship.
From what I hear the Can/US border is fairly lax, and since you’ll be a family with both parents carrying valid documents, a simple birth certificate will be enough. Of course a border guard might decide to be difficult, by I don’t see why they should. Just remember to leave the crates of uzis and cocaine at home and you’ll be fine.
Did they just switch the rules so that we do need passports to get into Canada?
CAN I CHILD GET INTO CANADA WIHT JUST A BIRTH CERTIFICATE
AND THEN BACK OVER THE BORDER TO THE US WITH THE CERTIFICATE?
IS THERE A REASON YOU’RE SHOUTING AND NOT READING THE FIRST ANSWER I POSTED?!
