Do the Christians who preach that Jesus died for our sins know what happened 3 days later?

Asked by baredurid (9points) June 11th, 2009

SPOILER ALERT CHRISTIANS. Don’t read any further.

Why do we keep hearing how Jesus died for our sins when he rises from the dead 3 days later and goes to heaven? When are they going to finish the story for the Christians and if they already know how the story ends, why do we still hear all this nonsense about Jesus dying for our sins?

Wouldn’t “Jesus took a three day nap for your sins” or “Jesus hibernated for your sins” be more honest?

Or, one could bring up the argument that Jesus didn’t really die at all, but was secretly taken from his tomb to France where he and Mary Magdalene lived long lives together and raised a family. But, it wasn’t in the Bible, so I’m sure it’s not true.~

I find it interesting that because some dude died 2010 years ago in a gruesome manner that an entire cross section of the world thinks they get a free pass on all the awful things they may decide to do to others.

Haha, did you spell your own username wrong? I’d get that checked out before diving into the theological debate…

@benseven Who are you referring to?

Let me start by telling you that I was raised Christian but I’m not really sure what I believe anymore. Now, the story doesn’t go that Jesus died and then slept for three days so that he could rise from the dead with that being the reasoning for everyone’s sins disappearing. See, before Jesus’ death, people had to make sacrifices to God to have their sins washed away. Basically they would give up the best of whatever they had. It could be anything from a percentage of their crops from harvest or their best livestock. Anyway, when Jesus was killed it served as the ultimate sacrifice and all a person would have to do is ask for forgiveness (you obviously have to mean it and not want to do your best to refrain from sin) and you would be forgiven just like that. The resurrection was supposed to be the proof that he was more than just man and that he did what needed to be done to save man.

At least that’s how I understood the whole thing. If you take the time to investigate the stories, you’ll find out there are reasonings behind why things went the way they did. The Bible isn’t a giant story that a bunch of children authors decided to write together. It’s accounts from the way people saw things and things that God supposedly told people to write. It may or may not be just as much bull shit or fact as any religion in my opinion. I suggest you investigate it for yourself before you just go making accusations that someone is wrong because of belief. There’s much more to Christianity than people tend to act like there is. it’s just as legit as any other religion.

Isn’t this type of Christain baiting the same as making light of someone being black or handicapped or in any way different than the OP?

Randy's avatar

@Blondesjon see, that’s what I started thinking after I started in on my second paragraph… It reminded me of that one question only with one group in place of another.

Blondesjon's avatar

@Randy . . .I agree. I don’t even believe in God. I just believe in practicing what you preach.

Ivan's avatar

@Blondesjon

This isn’t just making light of the fact that Christians are different from the OP, it’s (presumably) meant to make light of an illogical conclusion that some Christians draw.

Blondesjon's avatar

@Ivan . . .So it’s making fun of Christians intelligence? How is that different from making fun of the conclusions someone with Down’s Syndrome would draw?

Randy's avatar

@Ivan In all my experiences, it’s not Christians that believe that way. It’s the one’s who draw conclusions about the Christians. Why not just let them believe what they want? I think the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a ridiculous idea but I would never try to tell those believers that they are dumb for believing what they do.

@Randy And the Easter Beagle and The Great Pumpkin. But who are we to judge?

Randy's avatar

@chyna EXACTLY! =D

Ivan's avatar

@Blondesjon

Because most Christians don’t have Down’s Syndrome and they are capable of thinking more clearly. Also, the decisions of people with Down’s Syndrome don’t have a significant impact on the most powerful nation on Earth.

@Randy

I am not making any arguments here, I was merely trying to clarify what I thought the OP was saying. We are letting people believe what they want. Neither you nor Blondesjon seem to be able to tell the difference between preventing people from having their beliefs and telling them why you think they’re wrong.

Also, the FSM is a parody religion; no one actually believes it.

Blondesjon's avatar

@Ivan . . .So folks with Down’s syndrome are insignificant and don’t think clearly? That sounds like a broad generalization one of those “evil” Christians would make.

Ivan's avatar

@Blondesjon

I think those two sentences hold the record for the highest “assumptions-per-word” value.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@Randy The Flying Spaghetti Monster is a fabricated mock-supreme being designed to poke holes in the idea of intelligent design. Anyone who subscribed to this as a legitimate religion and believes that the decrease in pirates is responsible for global warming is a fool indeed, though it is an amusing concept.
