What do you do when the kids are away at camp?

Asked by wundayatta (58741points) June 11th, 2009

We go out for dinner; catch some jazz; see a movie in a movie theater; visit with friends. It’s kind of a new discovery each time, and we hardly know how to do these things. It’s almost overwhelming. Sometimes we just veg out and crash at home, since there are no kids to put to bed or reading stories to, or whatever. Occasionally, we even even enjoy each other a bit more, if you know what I mean. ;-)

I wish I had the money to send my children to camp. We save our money (what little we have) for a “family” vacation instead.

Miss them. We look forward to it, but it seems like around the time I get back from dropping them off…I already miss them.

Sure, we do things, but we think the house is far too quiet.

this isn’t a euphemism for dropping the kids off at the pool, is it?

@evelyns_pet_zebra I don’t think so! Heh! That one always makes me laugh. I don’t know why, but it does. :)

I would celebrate the silence, but think of them fondly. And I missed them so much that I forgot any negative feelings I might have for some of their behaviors that were amplified due to the stress of daily living.

I always did volunteer work at the camp to get a discount, because I couldn’t afford it otherwise.

Miss them.

We are a family and we hang out together. I think the fact that this is such a “foreign” concept to a lot of people speaks volumes about what is wrong with America.

They are not a “pain in the ass” and they are not a “test”. They are your kids. If that is still too hard for you to understand, maybe you should have kept your legs shut.

I clean, try to catch up on the laundry, send care packages, and check the camp website daily for pictures.

I enjoy the peace and quiet, but at the same time I miss them.

The dogs miss them, too, even though they don’t have to share the couch while the kids are gone.

Glad I didn’t have kids, seems I missed out on a lot, and not all of it wonderful.
