I have mild insomnia. Any tips, suggestions on helping me get tired/relaxed?

Try breathing through your nose, but imagine you are breathing in through one nostril and out through the other. This focuses your mind.
Another thing I do is go through my day and “forget” each event with every breath.
Good luck!

My biggest recommendation is doing strenuous exercise (3 or more hours before you sleep). That’s huge for me. Also, a little red wine or Chamomile tea (a natural muscle relaxant) can help.

Finally, I think “letting go” when you’re in bed in essential. Make a list of things you’re thinking about if you need to. And then forget about them.

passion flower tea can be very good to drink at night before bed to help calm you down and put you to sleep. Be careful though as it is an MAOI and should not be taken if you are on any antidepressants. Also though most people would not agree that this is the “right” answer. Smoking marijuana before bed can really help to relax you and make for some wonderful sleep.

A lot of good and creative answers from the ghost-of-fluther-past (ignore the one about Mac in sleep mode).

if you are troubled by things you want to do the next day or questions that are left unanswered, you might try journaling these things. part of the reason why people are troubled by their thoughts when trying to sleep is that they are afraid they are going to forget something. by writing these things down, you can put your mind to rest—at least until you read the journal at a later time.

Yeah, my mind races as soon as I put my head down. I get very anxious and think about good & bad things.

Chances are your brain still wants to do something. Find out what you want to get done the most (that you can do right away at home) and do that until you get bored.
