I’ve decided that with AT&T’s crappy int’l roaming rates, it’s better to get a burner in France and forward my calls using Skype. I just want to make sure that it doesn’t take something like two weeks to set up a SkypeOut number

We use Google voice chat all the time and it works very well. Even my technophobic father has been convinced to use it. But we have to schedule calls with him—he doesn’t hang out on Google, so it cannot be spontaneous.
When I set up my Skype it took about thirty minutes, but this was a few years ago and from Poland. I really don’t know how the process might have changed.
Like 10 minutes. Was pretty quick for me.
I taught someone over the phone how to install skype, signup for service and helped her troubleshoot IE7 while I was at it. It took 20 minutes total.
Ah sorry, I’m not talking about installing the software… I’m talking about getting the skype number. You know, the one that replaces your land line.
I have the Skype local number and it took less than five minutes. It is very useful to have a local number when you only have a cell phone. It saves a lot of bother.
