Do you think the loss of the World Cultural Heritage for the Dresden Elbe Valley could have been averted if the design of the bridge would have fit into the classical setting of the city?

Can you give a bit more background on this?

basically the dresden elbe valley had the title of world cultural heritage.
dresden decided to build a new bridge right through the desiganted area, which then resulted in the revocation of the title.

this is how the bridge will look like.

(the city held a referendum and the majority of the voters approved of the bridge)
