Insecurity about looking like a ping pong ball.
Grow it where ya got it.
yea, but is this really the answer?
Why are so many people who have beards and mustaches also bald?
Probably for the same reason I do.
I am bald, no hair, no mustache, no eyebrows and the only hair I do have is the usual places under my clothes (not counting arm hair). I have eyelashes simply because eyelids are rather hard to shave.
Most of the bald guys I know shave their heads because it is an easy way to care for the scalp, but feel the need for a beard or mustache, for whatever reason. I’d love to grow a beard, but unfortunately, my job description doesn’t allow facial hair.
What better answer than: Life is about choices, your results may vary.
You know, you could always ask a bald guy with the mustache or beard, go to the source, and see what he says.
Because if they didn’t have a major patch of fur their head, the run the risk of offsetting the natural balance of the universe – causing reality to strain, tear and melt upon itself.
Also, maybe so that they don’t look like Mr. Clean.
Well, I don’t have much hair up there but I grow as much of a beard as I can because basically, beards are just cool. Women can have babies, men can grow beards. It’s the way the universe works. Sure, some sides don’t use their potential but, oh well.
@Randy And some women can grow mustaches and beards, but men can’t have babies.
@eve, have you SEEN the dude lately? He went from being a normal hey-look-that-guy-has-no-hair-and-looks-like-he-just-came-flyin’-outta-a-vagina-two-mintues-ago guy to being AN F’N COMPUTER GENERATED CARTOON CHARACTER.
If that isn’t proof that reality bends around those with no head-hair, I dunno what is.
@Grisaille that’s evolution in action..what, you thought evolution was just for living things and not marketing icons/mascots? Ever seen the Aunt Jemima syrup bottle character? She changed over the years, too.
@chyna I beg to differ. =)
check out the film like down there.
I guess because It gives their woman something to run their fingers through. The only other option would be a toupee. But that’s not so good because then she could be running her fingers through the dude’s hair when he’s not at home.
cut the crap guys, no one has given me the real philosophical answer
@krizan We don’t know the answer. Ask someone that is bald with facial hair.
@chyna my father is bald, but i’m afraid to ask him
I don’t know anyone that is bald with facial hair, or I would ask them.
@AstroChuck That’s hilarious.
@Eve No, I’m very much aware. In fact, survival of the fittest also can be applied for terminology. See: Creation Story -> Intelligent Design
I just went there. Oh, shi—
@krizan: I can understand being afraid. I’ve heard bald guys with facial hair are violent.
Seems as if facial hair is in vogue these days. I think it started (this time around) with Tom Selleck (as Magnum) with his mustache and baseball cap. Prior to that, I don’t recall adults wearing ball caps and it didn’t seem to be fashionable to have a muzzie.
Here is the rough tough Northern Territory, it seems to be the vogue to have long flowing beards or goatees and shaved heads. To me it always looks like they have their heads on upside down. And since it is so hot, I just don’t get the logic, or maybe there is none!
There rarely seems to be logic in any fashion for women or men, it often seems to be celebrity related, so I guess that is my answer!
I personally like goatees on guys. I always do a second look if a guy walks by me with one.
@chyna – I am sort of embarrassed to admit this, but most goatees remind me of female genitalia.
Why did the image of The Blue Man Group just pop into my head when thinking about no eyebrows and no eyelashes?
@AstroChuck – what is the difference, I guess I thought they were pretty much the same???
@rooeytoo- Goatee = Beard with no mustache or sideburns.
My bald husband has a Van Dyke I’ve always called it a goatee, who knew? I think it looks good. He shaves his head completely because he’s only got about 14 hairs on top of his head anymore. What I want to know is why do most balding men have such hairy bodies? Has anyone else noticed this? My husband looks like a bald gorilla.
@knitfroggy My ex was just like that!
I don’t think there’s any real reason other than that some bald men prefer to have facial hair. Just as some men with a full head of hair prefer to have facial hair.
@evelyns_pet_zebra No eyebrows? Um, why?
@AstroChuck Van Dyke is what I meant. I didn’t know there was a difference either.
As simple a reason as is available; the bald person in question thinks they look more attractive with a beard and/or moustache.
A theory: the hair that falls off the scalp settles on the face.
@fundevogel I bet you would know! I bet you’re bald under that top hat!
@augustlan I just don’t like eyebrows, they always need to be trimmed. Easier just to shave em off. Ever seen Andy Rooney or Dave Letterman when their eyebrows get all wild? I hate that look.
@evelyns_pet_zebra My husband has those wild ass eyebrows! I have the job of trimming them up. :)
I shave my head, and wear a Van Dyke beard. The reason is this: no hair at all is just too much skin for me. I’m bald on top and shave the rest of the head, then wear the beard to balance the lack of hair up top. It may have something to do with having to wear eyeglasses, but with no beard i look like a pair of eyebrows and some glasses floating around. The beard provides the contrast that hair provides on the unshaven. I suspect that is the reason for many bald men.
Plus, for the curious: a goatee is chin only. A Van Dyke is mustache and chin. I have been tempted do just do the soul patch under the lower lip, but my wife draws the line there.
