What's your anthem right now and why?

You know how sometimes there’s a song that just seems to define your summer or just feels right for your life at a given point?

the battle music from dragonball.
(the original japanese one, as i heard that the american dub replaced the music with their own)

“Dig” by Incubus is a major one for me, at the moment.

Edit: Forgot the “why” part, sorry. A lot of people and friends I know, including myself, are going through pretty difficult things. The song is a nice reminder that no matter what, we’ll always be there for each other, in good times and bad. Itspeaks to me on a very deep level and I can’t get sick of hearing it.

Voodoo by godsmack.

La_chica_gomela's avatar

Mine is still “Just Dance” by Lady GaGa.

The opening lyrics pretty much sum it up:

“I’ve had a little bit too much / All of the people start to rush by”
....
“What’s goin’ on on the floor?/ I love this record baby but I can’t see straight anymore
Keep it cool. What’s the name of this club? / I can’t remember but its alright, I’m alright / Just dance”

TheWatcher's avatar

They beginning to voodoo Is rather catchy…

Cotton Crush by Kevin Devine for this minute.

It starts out kinda mellow and sweet and builds up with so much intensity. It speaks so much to me lyrically and it’s all just a really enjoyable experience. Not to mention I love Jesse Lacey. Both him and Kevin Devine are amazing artists.

I’ll be in the sky. By I don’t remember.

Falling Down – Muse

And All That Could Have Been – Nine Inch Nails

9 Crimes – Damien Rice

I’m going through a rough patch, and – I fucking hate to admit this on a public forum – I’m quite lonely. Instead of listening to upbeat music that gets me going and makes me happy, I “enjoy” wallowing in my sorrow.

So much that I should have done; I can’t take my mind away. No matter where I go, I’m reminded of who I should have been, where I should have gone, my own selfishness, etc.

Just writing this makes me… upset.

https://www.thesixtyone.com/DavidTamaoka/song/Let's+Go+/46332/ because it rocks and because it’s a little something that’s missing at the moment.

i don’t recognize any of the songs mentioned above! sad! but, for me, for years now:

so you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it’s sinking
racing around to catch up behind you again

dates me i’m sure, but even when they and I were fresh, never take today for granted is what these lyrics have told me since i was a teen.

TheWatcher's avatar

The old pokemon theme song!!!!

Randy's avatar

@Grisaille I just found Damien Rice last week. He is unbelievable! Lisa Hannigan’s voice just takes my breath away when I hear it. 9 Crimes is my favorite and I have to admit that when I heard it, I actually teared up. I’ve never had a song do that to me. It, along with the rest of Damien’s music is some of the most beautiful stuff I’ve ever heard.

I also love Damien Rice. “Cold Water” is one of my favorite songs. Fucking amazing.

TheWatcher's avatar

Whoa don’t drop the F-bomb

Grisaille's avatar

@Randy She’s ethereal. Her delicate voice makes me tear up, too – don’t worry. She’s also incredibly beautiful. :[ Check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YXVMCHG-Nk PRONTO (if you haven’t done so already). His music amazing; such emotion.

@DrasticDreamer HEY! Long time no see :]

Imitosis – Andrew Bird
Song 2 – Blur
Percussion Gun – White Rabbits
One Red Thread – Blind Pilot

I guess I’ve always liked the Andrew Bird song, but i’ve just started really listening to it lately.

“Song 2” is a song I just learned with my band, so I’ve been listening to the real version a lot to learn it, and I’ve realized how much I actually like it.

“Percussion Gun” is just a great song built around a really energetic drum beat.

And I’m not sure why I like the Blind Pilot song so much.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@dverhey because that Blind Pilot song is great!

Jude's avatar

Right now, the line from “Wish You Were Here” by Floyd. I changed it a bit, though, to “a lost soul swimming in a fish bowl…”.

Saturday in the Park – Chicago

I chose this song because life is going really well for me right now and this song by Chicago talks about a fun, carefree, and relaxing day at the park describing nice activities and events going on. It just makes me feel good.

Clair's avatar

@Bluefreedom Saturday in the Park. Wow, that takes me back. Lurve.

Mine for the moment are
Minuet in G – Bach
Antmusic – Adam and the Ants
I’m Your Boogie Man – Rob Zombie
...Obviously I’m going through a phase right now…and loving it.

Jude's avatar

God, at this very moment? It would be this. The whole fucking song.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

i’ve always got one until a question like this comes up. as much as i love this question, any candidates for my personal theme song vanish.
my friends joke that the kitty song is my theme song (listen to it, it is so funny).

in all seriousness, i do not hesitate to think that conor oberst has penned an anthem for every day i’ll ever live. a few that seem like constants to me are:
-bowl of oranges, on my more whimsical, optimistic days
-we are nowhere and it’s now, more or less all the time
-saturday as usual pretty much is all of my paranoia over the future/life/etc as a song
-nikorette and
-june on the west coast in general
i can’t completely word-for-word identify with all of those, but sometimes a song just has a vibe you can’t shake that feels like your life.

Tink's avatar

It’s funny how everytime someone answers this question again I have a new one Wake Up Coheed and Cambria
