It’s actually “if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with”. I might be wrong but that’s the only way I have heard it.

Some hippie song said, “If you can’t be with the one you love then love the one you’re with” and so many people spend years trying to make this real but… oh yeah, now I remember- they wake up and realize mortal time is finite and go get them some cake.

I think it happens every day. You love someone more than anything but he dumps you. You meet a new guy, you develop feelings maybe even love, but you will never be with the one you really loved the most.

All too often people take lovers not because they have a vested interest in the person or a relationship, but for self gratification.

No it can’t be. Even if you go to love the one who loves you, your only lying to yourself. Its the term one is better then nothing. If you can’t be with the one you love, you go to the person who loves you as a last resort. There’s no love there. Becuz deep down you’ll still have some feelings for the other person whom you loved.

I think it’s “if you can’t have the one you want, love the one you have” or something, innit? In any case my answer would be yes. To have someone that loves you is a great and rare blessing, and I’d do my best to live up to her expectations. Unfortunately it’s not always possible to feel attraction towards someone, so in many cases the effort would not be enough, but I’d at least give it my best shot.

Oh @Tink1113 ! You poor thing. Something similar happened to me, and it’s just horrible, I know. But know that you will get over your lost love, and you will be happy alone. After that, when you least expect it, you will be going along, fine and independent and on your own, when suddenly, the perfect one for you will walk into your life out of nowhere.

But remember – you have to concentrate on happiness, so that the perfect one will find you… you want to advertise the happy, wonderful you, not the sad, depressed version.

I thought before, you can love the person that loves you, when the one you love doesnt feel the same way as you do. Don’t you feel more irritated to that person who loves you? And keep on asking why doesn’t the other one love me as much as this one? So to answer the question, no. if you go with the other person, you are just trying to heal the wounds made by the one you loved. the heart wants what the heart wants. And in this scenario, it doesnt get what it wants.
But time is a factor. you’ll love someone else but not the same way as you love the first one.

hahaha I’m there now. I dated a guy for a while and we broke up on mutual grounds. I started dating another guy after that and did honestly love him. I’m still with him but the more time we spend together, the more I realize I love the first guy and not the guy I’m with now. :S I would strongly urge you to be alone instead of being with someone who has feelings for you that you can’t return. It’s a lose-lose situation.
