Are Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson actually the same person?
If not, at the very least they get together and discuss how they can sound more alike.

This is a great question. I do believe that they are one in the same.
huh? Dave Matthews IMO is much more of a jam band where Jack Johnson is just chill music.
Who’s Jack Johnson? Didn’t know Dave Matthews was alive. hmm
Jack is Dave’s little brother. He’ll never compare! Ever!
@uberbatman lurve
I personally do not think they sound alike in any way. I agree with the earlier comment that Dave is jam band and Jack is more of a solo artist.
If you folks like jams, you’re listening to the wrong stuff.
Totally different types of music, dude. Different vocal sound, different instruments, just… different. I think you may need hearing aids. ;-)
And John Mayer. They’re like the Holy Trinity in the form of modern day minstrels. I don’t like the lot of them. I know, not liking DMB is unconstitutional or some shit…
wait – does jack johnson make videos comprised solely of stop motion video of him making weird faces? also, does david matthews never wear shoes?
also, both are shit.
I checked with my mom and she says Dave Matthews is alive. I say we put him on a billing along with Huey Lewis and The News and Rick Springfield. Hat Trick of suckage
I love Dave Matthews and Jack Johnson. I even like some of John Mayer’s stuff, too. Just sayin’.
@augustlan my condolences on the loss of your hearing. i had no idea.~
@dverhey I saw Victor Wooten live with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. He is f’ing incredible!
Umm…no fuckin’ way. Jack Johnson is a singer songwriter. Dave brought together a unique group of musicians and created a new sound. Dave’s lyrics are by far superior. Dave uses his voice as a instrument; JJ sings. DMB sells out arenas, all over the world, every year. Need I go on?
BTW I do not like Johnson or Mayer. And I’ve seen DMB 20 times. 2 more in September.
@augustlan Come sit on this porch swing with me and we’ll sip on some lemonade, listen to Dave Matthews and search for our hearing aids. ;)
anyone who dislikes DMB should really listen to their live performances. Theyre completely different and 100% more awesome.
There’s room for you too uber and tiny!
@uberbatman yes, but those 4hr jams are perfect for your, uhm, lifestyle lol
@augustlan Bela Fleck is awesome. I highly recommend you check out Uncommon Ritual. Its Edgar Meyer with Béla Fleck and Mike Marshall, simply amazing.
Ooh…idea. Fluther road trip at the Gorge (camping and 3 days of DMB).
Every time somebody makes a crack at bassists I point them to this video.
@dverhey Don’t forget Flea and Les Claypool!
I definitely don’t, but that’s just something that looks so much more difficult… And it’s great guitar work too…
Uh, their voices don’t sound anything alike to me. I have no idea what you’re talking about! That’s ridic!
OK this is really very interesting to me, and although I never heard of Johnson before running across this question, the melody of his song Gone sounds eerily a lot like Oh at about 1:20 minutes into Gone. Weird. Very weird. But no—there will never be another Dave. sigh
lurve to Bela, they came to my school and it was completely awesome
I don’t see a similarity at all. Hmm.
FYI Jeff Coffin of Bela Fleck now tours with DMB.
Ugh, Jack Johnson. I don’t think they sound alike at all.
Yay! Bela Fleck!
i love jack johnson, and have for years.
i don’t really know who dave matthews is, but i seem to remember my old teacher playing his music in class. i remember it being vaguely annoying, but i could be totally off. really though, i’m just wondering why there’s so much jack johnson hate. he has a nice voice, and he writes nice songs. i don’t see anything overly hate-able about him, whether you listen to him or not.
