What is happening to me..? Have you ever typed a word but a different word appears?
Twice yesterday I tried to type the word “entirely” but the word that appeared on screen came out as “with”. This happened twice on diiferent comments. It was definitely my mistake and not the computer. A feeling of vertigo overcame me when seeing the wrong word appear.
My mind said one thing but my hands said another.
Has anything like this ever happened to you? Am I going nuts?
No, I have not been stressed or had any recent head injuries.

I have actually done that many times, but usually the words are similar words – either in the way they look or in meaning. ‘Entirely’ and ‘with’ don’t seem to fall into that category. Interesting.
When it’s happened to me, I attribute it to a couple of factors: Hands working faster than brain; tiredness; or tipsy.

Yeah these aren’t even the same letter count. At first I thought my hands were missaligned on the keyboard, but obviously not the case.
I look at the keys when type, and even then, I end up with ‘beofre’ instead of ‘before’, ‘storng’ instead of ‘strong’ and ‘thougth’ instead of ‘thought’ and ‘oculd’ instead of ‘could’.. Usually its just mistrokes or thinking faster than I type.
You might have your brain looked at, as it could be a slight imbalance of brain chemicals, or somethign else. Better safe than sorry.
If your mind was wandering a bit while you were typing, it is probable that you typed a word from the off-topic thought; this happens all of the time.
make sure you’re not listening to the tv or the radio etc in the background… :)
See, I even misspelled somethign, again. as Freud said, sometimes a cigar is just a with.
I’ve done that typing and writing for many different reasons. But when I was in high school I had some trouble in math by doing it with numbers, which was the worst. No idea why, but I do it somewhat often.
That’s why I re-read and edit everrrrrything.
@tadpole: Nah. It’s just weirdness. Dyslexia would make sense if the numbers were similar or had anything to do with each other or something. They generally didn’t.
Could this be Word Salad? I have seen this on a couple of television shows (Boston Legal & House), usually to great comic effect, but it seems to be an actual disorder. On those shows it involves speech, though.
Yes, I do. Sometimes if I don’t focus, my hands will type word salad. Something like “my hands will focus monster like”. Other times it’s pretty menacing stuff.
