Why there are so many "home security" alarm system commercials?

Asked by seVen (3489points) July 6th, 2009 from iPhone

Is it because a lot of people loose their jobs and don’t get the unemployment benefits thus commit bulglaries?

They making money playing to people’s sense of insecurity.

because people enjoy watching bad acting.(american idol, so you think you can dance, jon n kate and the list goes on)

Partly because the sales network works for commission only, and the more exposure, the more sales. Mostly because that business is the one with the most disposable advertising income right now. When business is good, advertising goes up.

I agree with @The_Compassionate_Heretic : To strike fear into people…so we spend more money on unnecessary things…

I spent 12 years in the electronic security industry 1 year I spent in the 7th level of hell also known as sales.

When the economy goes south crime usually goes up (or at least people think it does) which creates a fantastic sales angle “fear” for future prospects.

I personally don’t think that the amount of advertising has gone up. The major residential players have always had a strong advertising budget. Look it this way ADT alone pulls in $223,700,000 / month in recurring revenue and a gross annual income of 4,200,000,000 even if you slice off a small percentage of that lets say 10% that’s 420 million in advertising money.
