What is the best way to find a pen pal?

I would like to find a pen pal, but I don’t know where to find one. I have tried several “pen pal finder” websites, but all of the people there look like creeps. And most of them are for email pals, but I would rather find a snail mail friend. I don’t want to pay money for a service to hook me up with someone. What is the best place to find a pen pal?

What’s up? My name is cynthia. I live in a very hot place…120*F. I’m going to be a junior this upcoming year…..
You should try to talk to your school.
I wasn’t really actively looking for one, but through my blog I met a few people with common interests (the subject of the blog, among others).
I also think it’d be a fun experiment to address it to a random postal code and see who lives there…
Ask someone you know to be your pen pal. Chelseababyy wrote on Twitter how she wanted a pen pal. She and I talk on Twitter so I offered and she accepted. So now we are pen pals.
Maybe you could be a pen pal with a jelly?
I use to be active on a forum and asked one of the girls I knew from that site to be penpals (the snail mail way). So, I think the best way is to ask someone you know a little bit already from a community type of website.
I’m always up for new friends and I like to write letters. The world we live in today…. We’ve got email, phones, texting, instant messaging all at our fingertips when it comes to communicating with each other. There’s something comforting about getting out pen and paper and just writing. Not to mention licking the envelope, sticking the stamp on, and sending it through the post box. :)
I’m going to be a freshman in college next year. Talk to me if you’re interested?
@gunther: How old are you? Where are you from? What are your interests? Maybe you can find someone here.
lol be still my beating heart ;)
It looks like you found a good spot to ask lol. I’m happy to see someone willing to keep some things old school…if you’re interested let me know. I’m not opposed to the idea
I probably don’t want to find a pen pal here. I’m more or less looking for ways to find one. Preferably non-internet ways.
Hmm, if you’re ever travelling you could just hang a note in the local supermarket of wherever you are :)
maybe you’d be interested in writing to people serving in the military? there are sure to tons of interesting people there, and many of them in need of something to brighten their day…if you scroll down on the page, there are links to websites where you can meet new penpals. i know you don’t want to find them via the internet, but i can’t think of many ways without traveling and meeting people. unless…
are there any areas near you that are good tourist spots? go there, meet some people, and then maybe you can continue talking to them through letters! you have a better chance at finding someone who isn’t creepy that way, and if you hit it off, you can hang out while they’re on vacation!
