What does it feel like to have a drug flashback?

Asked by tinyfaery (44249points) July 19th, 2009

I’ve done a lot if drugs in my lifetime, mostly psychedelics. I used to hear a lot about people having LSD flashbacks, but I don’t know anyone who has ever purported to have had one, and I don’t think I have ever had one.

Have you had a drug flashback? What was it like? Or is a drug flashback a myth?

I’ve never had one. I’m legitimately curious as to what a “drug flashback” is.

Haven’t had one but what I’ve studied suggests it is a very real thing.
Supposedly, the symptoms are similar to the original trip.

Below is a more detailed description of the phenomenon.

The only drug ive ever flashed back to is DMT. The only time it ever happens was in near sleep states and once during some very psychedelic trance music. The thing about the flashbacks though are i can control it. I can really snap out of it at any time if i want to, i just dont cause its really enjoyable :P Its also not nearly as intense as actually doing said drug.

Ive also noticed that ever since ive taken any particular drug i can have very vivid dreams where i take said drug and it feels just as real as tripping awake.

They can be small, like moving the seat belt buckle from your leg to the holster, but you still “see” it on your leg. Or they can be bigger, causing panic attacks. This is a small collection of results, of course, from me and my group of friends. Back in the 80’s, we did more than our fair share of daily hallucinogens. Over the last 15 years, we (collectively) have had two or three flashbacks. Results may vary by user.

The really good stuff should give you a drug flashforward.
Seriously, you should always say no to drugs. That will drive the prices down.

I imagine it involves the theme tune to ‘Requiem for a Dream’.

My boyfriend has them.. they’re not actually “flackbacks” but he says he’ll wake up in the morning and go into the bathroom and the wallpaper is all spinny and basically it’s just like he’s tripping but not. And he said he always seeing those sun spot type things (like when you look at a light too long) and that’s about all that he’s told me.

Thank you @Grisaille. I was attempting to find the song name amongst my own music (with little success). Good song.

@Nially_Bob Fantastic song. Just, I’ve heard it so many goddamn times in so many goddamn movie trailers. Shame, it’s lost it’s original affect on me.

Every time I drive on a long straight road towards an intricate cloudscape, I start getting visuals of the clouds joining together very swiftly. And I get the wallpaper motion that generalspecific mentioned if it’s a good flowy pattern. It’s great.

Once I got one and I felt all dizzy and everything made me laugh, the walls looked like if they were slowly melting and spinning at the same time. But it was nothing special.

For me it is a bunch of silvery specks coming at me. I can hardly see. I just have to stop what I am doing and wait it out. The dangers of to much acid as a kid…
