How long can u use Pause button on Cd portable player?

Asked by gailcalled (54647points) December 9th, 2006
I listen to a lot of books on tape (actually on CDs) and wonder whether I can treat the Pause button the way I do the Stop on on a tape player. The button says "Start/Pause." If I pause, can I leave player for several hours or longer or is it like a VHS...good for a few minutes only and then, zaaaap! The CD Walkman eats batteries as tho they are tootsie rolls, as it is, from all the forwarding and backing to find spot where I fell asleep. Hope this is clear

Since pausing a cd causes it to remain spinning, it uses a fair amount of juice... probably almost as much as playing. I suspect some CD players will auto stop--similar to a VHS. That being said, it may not be that bad. Considering how low the stakes are, I would say just test it for yourself.

the motor is the part that uses the most power. pausing will save you essentially no energy.
