What motivates you?
Simple question based off of curiosity of the minds of others.
What makes you act in the manner you do. What drives you to achieve something. How do you decide what it is you want to achieve. A motivation. Mind sharing?

The poem Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson gets my motivation going.
What gives me direction is trying to make my wife, my family, and my God happy.
Happiness. If everything is going well in my life, I’ll have that little “umph” to push forward, and, hopefully achieve what ever it is that I’m going after. I’ll feel as though nothing could stop me. Now, if I’m feeling poopy and things aren’t going well, in general, it’ll be hard to get my ass moving on anything.
Peace. Peace of mind, peace in the home and heart is my biggest motivation.
Peace means love and unity and lack of chaos. It is why I work and why I live how and where I do.
The pleasure of making something others can enjoy :)
Seeing others being even more productive.
Time… I’m turning 23… and slowly I’m realising that in another 10 years most of my opportunities to accomplish things will fade. It’s not that I look at the mirror and say “you could die tomorrow” but yeah I’d like to get some things done in this life.
I am motivated by uniqueness. I like to exist outside the sphere of normality and am attracted to others with the same outlook on life. Conformity is for small minded people with no imagination. Most of my motivation comes from creativity, but I am also strongly motivated by showing empathy to the people who seem to need it most. sometimes that’s hard to see, I know, but I am working on it.
I like to make people laugh, and a smile for and from a stranger can do wonders for my day. Unless you piss me off, then I have nothing but contempt for you. Fortunately, I only hold a grudge for a little while. like a lifetime or two. =)
I came here expecting to give my own individial answer but when I read what @evelyns_pet_zebra wrote, that motivated me in itself and I saw things in his response that were a reflection of myself and that made me feel good.

In a nutshell, seeing others doing better than I am motivates me.

I am equally motivated by self-worth and self-loathing. I also enjoy making people laugh and watching the lightbulbs turn on for my students or my daughter.
Ultimately, I’m motivated by the opportunity to be a better person for my wife and daughter.
For me, life is a competition between the “me” who is and the “me” I aspire to be – and I’ll be damned if I let that motherfucker win.
