Can I return my Nintendo DS?
I just bought it today and it came to about $200 with a game. I opened all of them including the game, turned it on and used it for about 15 minutes. I really regret buying it and I was wondering if I could just bring it back and put everything back in the packaging. Do you guys think I could do that?

Where did you buy it and what is their return policy?
Start with where you bought it and we’ll read through and help you figure out the rest.
its from Future Shop, and I’ll check what they’re return policy is but I’ve never done this before. Do I go to their website?
They probably had it posted at the store. A LOT of places print it on the receipt or the back of the receipt. Usually you have 30 days if it is unopened. Since you opened it, you actually need to read the policy.
If Futureshop.ca is the right place, then their policy is down at the bottom of the home page after the link “easy returns”. It looks like if you bring everything back to the store with the original receipt, you should be fine. They may not take the game back, though.
If you are asking, whether I feel you could do that…. well yes, as long as you have left no marks. It makes me wonder though, the next time you spend so much money on a system like that, you should really consider asking a friend to lend it to you for a couple of days before buying.
But… hey if you spend $200 dollar and you are disappointed… bring it back as fast as you can. Especially if they have a return policy. Don’t feel guilty over that.
Well, I don’t think they will accept it because you opened everything already. But good luck!

I have EVERYTHING the plastic everything was wraped in, EVERYTHING. So I put it all back in the packaging and it is EXACTLY the smae as when I bought it. Except for the game. It is EXACTLY the same except the plastic its wraped in is off (but I still have the plasctic wrapping). If I tell them I opened the game but not the DS everything should be fine right? I really am an impulsive shopper and I don’t know why I bought this.
I plan on saying that it was a gift for a friend but she already had one so I’m bringing it back, and the game was opened but thats all.
Returning the DS shouldn’t be a problem. It’s the game that is the issue. Generally stores don’t take returns on open games because once it’s opened you could have theoretically made a copy.
Don’t lie to them and say the DS wasn’t open when it was. I doubt you removed all your fingerprints, so they’ll know. I would normally advise even against lying about why you’re returning it, but I know Futureshop and their employees and to be honest your strategy is probably better for getting your refund with less hassle. Just say that you bought it for your friend as a present and opened it up/put in the game and wrapped that up to give to her, but she already had one. (Otherwise, why would your friend have opened up everything if she knew she already had a DS?)
You will be met eventually with a case where you will not be able to return your impulse purchased merchandise, so I would strongly advise you start improving on this front. If you give in to impulse purchases, at least read their return policy which is usually on the back of the receipt.
I returned the DS no problem, but the game however they wouldn’t take back. I gave it to my little sister, and I basically lost $40 dollars, oh well.
When I went to return the DS and game the guy said okay, and he started to take them back and punch things into the computer, he basically was just about to transfer the money back into my account when this big lady budged in and said “you can’t return the game.” I told her that the man said I could and was in the middle of doing it and she said “oh, he dosen’t know what he’s doing, he works in the camera section.”
Since I was already told I could return the game do you guys think it was fair that she abruptly budged in and canceled it? I work in a phone center and if someone makes a mistake and tells a customer that they can recieve a free credit and then another employee tells them later no, wouldn’t they get in trouble? Isn’t the customer always right? And you can’t say one thing, then say another right?
I don’t think it was fair, and I think that lady wasn’t doing her job right, she should have explained the situation, and said that she would still return the game. What do you guys think?
no, it’s not fair…No the customer isn’t always right, credits/returns that break company policy can be canceled I worked for Sprint/Nextel/T-Mobile/Centennial Wireless as a supervisor and have canceled credits given to customers that broke policy. It sucks but their policy on game returns is very clear “located on the back of your receipt in red bold letters” “Due to copyright laws, computer and game console software, music CDs, DVDs and videos in opened packages may only be exchanged for the same item. Terms and conditions are subject to change without notice”
again the customer isn’t always right those days are long gone.
@tyrantxseries I suppose your right. Although why is it they would not let me exchange the game for another game of equal or lesser value?
…..like what dynamicduo said, someone could take the game home, copy it, then return and get another one… and so on. Bad apples ruin it for everyone.
@tyrantxseries yeah, I never thought of that. I guess the woman at future shop was right and just doing her job.
