Are you talking about this guy? Dude is a rapper? I can’t imagine how he could possibly be taken seriously.
Never heard of him. So my answer would be “I don’t”
Haha, he’ll always be Jimmy from Degrassi to me.
i’m with @TitsMcGhee.
seems everyone’s in ~love~ with him now (as a rapper), so i’m guessing he made it.
i heard a song or two by him. it’s okay?
i don’t know. just as jared leto will always be ‘that guy from my so-called life that turned into a douchebag singer of a lame band’, drake will always be ‘that guy i used to love from degrassi who’s rapping now, isn’t that cute?’.
@tiffyandthewall: Hey now now; Jared Leto will always be ‘that guy from My So-Called Life who turned out to be a pretty good actor too, even if 30 Seconds to Mars isn’t that great of a band…’
If I were a guy whose real name was Aubrey I would probably change it, too. However, I have no idea how he is as a rapper.
However, this Drake is an okay singer, not earthshaking, but competent.
Drake is probably one of the most clever rappers/singers in the music industry right now. His wordplay, thought process and use of thought provoking content is truly only matched by that of Jay-Z.
pretty cool lyrics from the Digital GIrl Remix
“Who’s that peeking in my window, uhhh
you should let some more skin show,
and if one of these websites get the info,
we can work it out no nintendo,
i just hit alt tab, switching between 2 convo’s
i should just call cabs and bring em both here to the condo,
yeah, normally it ain’t a question,
we would cross paths like an intersection
but she just too far away for affection
so i pray that we never lose a connection
cos i remember stacy, she probably hate me,
she used to threaten she had a man to replace me,
she talk that sh-t I just hit the escape key,
and then she get mad and wanna go and erase me,
and I remember amy, she used to AIM me,
she stayed up late and used to blame me,
she say i’m too wild, she wanna tame me,
I told her even photoshop couldn’t change me,
but you you you got me open girl, why lie,
we ain’t even tryin to settle so why lie,
end the night with a kiss and a bye bye,
no strings attached your love is so wi-fi,”
I remember a magician by that name..did he change careers?
my lord, what passes for lyrics these days is horrible.
drake
he also has number two song on the billboard top 100 wiht Best I Ever Had
those of you hating on this cat obviously aren’t fans of hip hop lyricism. Drake is diamond in the rough amongst the garbage that MTV, BET, & clear channel radio bombard the masses with. i dug this cat way before i even new what the hell degrassi was. he’s got mad skillz. in fact, hearing that he was on this show prompted me to check it out. happens to be a good show! evelyns pet zebra is a moron, i suppose if you had half the brain to understand the cleverness of his prose you wouldn’t have made such an asinine comment.
@SuckaFreeCitizen: Whoa, hostile much? I think you can state your opinion without calling other members morons and questioning their understanding of “clever” pop-rap lyrics. Sheesh, calm down.
My bad, that was kind of a knee jerk reaction. Being new to this arena, I didn’t really have a feel for the community yet. I’m a bit opinionated and sometimes forget to put on the kid gloves. I’ll check myself. Don’t it twisted though, just because the dude rides with Weezy doesn’t mean it’s pop-rap. Save that category for the likes of the Soulja Boys and Sean Pauls, etc, etc. Of course one can find a gang of dope lyricists in the underground, but in the mainstream they seem like a dying breed. I love hip hop very much, well, I love music in general too. It’s just a pet peeve of mine when closed-minded people vomit their opinions about things they really don’t know anything about. But you’re right, everyone is clearly entitled to their own opinion. I apologize to evelyns pet zebra.
@SuckaFreeCitizen: Well, I love rap and hip-hop as well, but I still have trouble calling someone who penned the following lyrics a “dope lyricist”:
“My shirt ain’t got no stripes but I can make yo pussy whistle
Like the Andy Griffith theme song
And who told you to put them jeans on
double cup love
You the one i lean on
Feeling for a fix then you should really get yo pheen on
Yea just know my condo is the crack spot
Every single show she out there repping like a mascot
Get it from the back
And make yo fucking bra strap pop
All up in yo slot until the nigga hit the jackpots”
I mean, I appreciate the song for what it’s worth, and I’ll sing along when it comes on the radio, but the simple fact that it is top 40 and talks about pussies whistling makes me not give it quite as much credit as someone like Immortal Technique.
@TitsMcGhee I’ll admit, that’s a radio airplay song. Even so the song in itself is not as terrible as some of the other ish out there making my ears bleed. There’s cleverness in his wordplay that I can still appreciate. Nevertheless, that doesn’t even display a tenth of his skill. If your judging from that alone it’s understandable why you might feel that way, but you need to check the mixtapes: Comeback Season, Room for Improvement, So Far gone. He’s no Immortal technique, but that’s because they don’t flow about the same content. That alone doesn’t make him any less skilled. All rap doesn’t have to be conscious rap and still have something to offer, but then again, that’s been a long standing debate amongst many heads. If that’s the case with you, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I’ll be selective depending on certain criteria that appeals to me as far as the art goes, but I won’t be a snob about it (not that I’m saying you are).
@TitsMcGhee Immortal Technique is a completly other story…I mean he chooses not to get as much credit…he chooses not to get signed on to a major label…Of course he´s not going to get credit for his lyrics because if you play Dance With The Devil on the radio….radio listeners (mainly people who listen just to hear a good song to drive along to or party too) would turn it off and put something on like Every Girl…
