Do you mean, you’d like to get rid of Vista and only have XP? or do you want both?
In the case of the former, all you have to do is format your harddrive and put in an XP install disk.
If you want to have both operating systems, it’s a bit more effort. The process is typically called Dual booting and there are tons of sites that could walk you through it. I’ve never done it with Vista, so I can’t really give any personal tales about how hard/easy it was.
If you buy a laptop from any manufacturer now, it will come will a free upgrade to Windows 7 on October 22. Just leave Vista until then; the upgrade process will be far simpler.
how does the upgrade process work? do you have to bring back to the store and have them do it or is it something I can do?
I would just want one system. To get rid of vista and just have XP.
Thanks for the help everyone.
You should forget all of that and get a MacBook. That’s just my 2 cents.
You can but before jumping into trying to install xp on your system, you need to make sure that there are drivers for your peripherals. I would check on the vendor’s website, probably under drivers and support to see if the drivers are available. If you’re not sure, call them to see if it’s possible. Beware, some vendors will tell you that it voids your warranty but it isn’t true, it only voids the software support warranty. The hardware will still be under warranty.
Hope this helped.

Thanks for the information. It is very helpful.
Don’t listen to her. He os tryin to get you to spend more than you need on a computer. If you are just doing word processing and web surfing, then windows is perfectly fine.
The upgrade will come in the form of a serial code. On 10/22, you will download Windows 7, type in that code, and get the upgrade. It’s not very complex, but if you ever need help, We’re all here for you.
Thanks so much for everyone’s help!
I think I might just wait for the upgrade.
Because of consumer complaints about Vista, Microsoft and several computer companies offered a downgrade from Vista to XP for just the cost of the XP software. Labor, install, set up, etc. were free.
