I have a 2008 iMac large screen and today as I fluthered every once in a while the screen does a split-second bright white flash.
Has anyone ever had this happen? Any ideas on what is going on?

Same thing happens to me. I also have a iMac. It only happens on Fluther. I suspect some funky javascript.
I can’t seem to reproduce it. But it happens a few times per day.
edit :: Your computer is fine. It is Fluther. My specs are Firefox 3.5 and OS X 10.5.7. But it happened with earlier versions of Firefox.
FF 3.5 is crashing on some java stuff too i’ve noticed. I’m sure the smart people are hard at work on it :D
Thanks @johnpowell. I am glad it is not the beginning of the end for the iMac. (I did just back up again just to be extra safe since I did a lot of work this morning)
I use Firefox too.
Yeah. It sucks but nothing bad is happening. I assume it is a bug in YUI and Firefox. It is annoying but it isn’t going to kill your computer.
No worries.
Check your System Preferences>Universal Access>Hearing. If may be set to flash the screen when there’s a system alert.
@simpleD :: It isn’t that. It looks different. Just the viewport in the browser that flashes white for a second. And it doesn’t do the fade that UA does. And it only happens on Fluther.
Does it flash in both Safari and Firefox?
I’m having a similar problem, i get the universal access flash every 5 mins or so, but the option in system preferences isn’t selected.
